Remembering Memorial Day At Grandma’s House Thru Crochet

Crocheting on my side of the Mountain.

I am always thankful when the weather is good and it allows me to crochet on the front porch. Sitting on the porch swing is so delightful. It doesn’t take long before my hook and yarn settle into a stress relieving rhythm. Soon after a gentle swinging begins and my mind starts to wander.

This crochet pattern is being featured for FREE in my Ravelry Shop during my “Bright Spot Monday” Feature! Use Code: BRIGHTSPOT2

You won’t miss a feature if you follow my Facebook business page or my instagram! I will also share my “Bright Spot Monday” in my Crafting Group  Just ask to join!

This is one of many of the designs that can be found in the Momma’s Lil Firecracker Ebook.

Remembering Memorial Day

Memorial Day will be here soon and it always stirs my patriotic pride. When I was young we would go to my Grandma’s house at the end of May. The back of the car would be full of flowers for decorating at the cemetery, and we would gather with our families to eat grandma’s cooking, and drink her sweet iced tea. Grandma would make her tea in what she called a crock, which was a beautifully decorated bowl. It had a rough edge around the brim that she would use to sharpen knives with. She made the tea using water from a well, and I think that well water made her tea taste extra special.

There were always new babies to love on at Grandma’s. They would all be dressed up like dolls, and my favorite were nautical sets. Little bubble rompers and dresses for the girls and short bibs for the boys in cotton. Grandma had window fans, so the babies would need to be cool.

Memories of those days gone by is one reason designing cute nautical sets are so easy. It gives me great pleasure to write crochet patterns that are easy and the designs are lovely.

You can find the Crochet Pattern Here.

Psst….If you are looking for nautical buttons look here.

There is still time to crochet those nautical sets for the babies, as it is only the first of May and it is finally getting warm on our side of the Mountain. The Sarvis tree has stopped blooming, and the Redbud is holding on for a few more days of splendor.

The Dogwood will be robust and beautiful in a few days, and next will be the sweet smell of Honey Locust trees blooming. I hear you can dip a locust bloom in batter, deep fry it, and dust it with powdered sugar for a delectable treat. You might want to soak those Locust blooms in salt water for a bit to get the bugs out. Look it up before you try it.
