I love to crochet and I love to wear skirts. Let me show you how to crochet this lace skirt. The fan stitch is easy. I used this stitch when I made the Ladies Mirrored Fan Lace Scarf! The ad free pdf file can be purchased at Ravelry or Etsy.

Pattern for Lace Skirt
Yarn: (3) Mandala yarn. Color “Narnia” I let the colors flow and cut when it was necessary.
XS thru Med. Approx. 600 – 700 yds. (2 Cakes)
L thru XL. Approx. 700 – 800 yds. (2 Cakes)
1x thru 2x Approx. 800 – 900 yds. (3 Cakes)
3x thru 4x Approx. 900 – 1000 yds. (4 Cakes)
5x Approx. 1100 – 1200 yds (4 Cakes)
Using (4) weight yarn would be totally acceptable, but keep in mind the measurements, as you may need to go down one hook size.
Hook: J-9/5.5mm
Gauge: Not important. Approx. measurements are given throughout the pattern. (Unblocked)
Special Stitches:
Fan: *dc, ch1, * Repeat 3 more x in ch4 arch space

Stitch Guide
join w/ = join with
slp st = Slip Stitch
ch = Chain
sc = Single Crochet
dc = Double Crochet
fp hdc = Front Post Half Double Crochet
bp hdc = Back Post Half Double Crochet
nxt = Next
* * = Repeat between the stars the number of times stated;
x = Times; example Repeat 2 x or 2 times; 3 x or 3 times and so on;
in = example “in nxt st” means you will be inserting the hook under the top two loops of the next stitch to complete stitch or sequence of stitches stated.
Finished length will be longer than a normal fabric skirt. As the garment goes around your hips it will make the length shorter. I recommend trying on the skirt as you are making it. You can add rounds or eliminate to suit your style, remember to end on a fan round.
Foundation Chain
Round 1: ch {112, 120, 128, 136, 144} {152, 160, 168, 176, 184} being careful not to twist, join in a ring with a slp st in 1st ch
Top of waist Approx. {39, 41, 43”, 45”, 47”} {49”, 51”, 53”, 55”, 57”} around. If you would like to add to the chain in a multiple of 8, it will add 2”,
Arch Round
Round 2: ch1, sc in same st, *ch 4, skip 3ch, sc in nxt ch;* {26, 28, 30, 32, 34} more x {36, 38, 40, 42, 44} more x; ch4, join w/slp st in beg sc.
(28, 30, 32, 34, 36 ch4 arches) (38, 40, 42, 44, 46 ch4 arches)
When instructions call for “in ch1sp, or in arch, you will be inserting hook under “ch1sp or chain arch” to pull up a loop to complete your stitch or stitches.
Fan Round (Fans are 2”w x 1”h)
Round 3: slp st in 1st arch, ch1, sc in same arch, ch1; Fan in nxt arch, ch1 *sc in nxt arch, ch1; Fan in nxt arch, ch1* Repeat {12, 13, 14, 15, 16} more x {17, 18, 19, 20, 21} more x; join w/slp st to beg. sc. (14, 15, 16, 17, 18 fans) (19, 20, 21, 22, 23 fans)
Arch Round
Round 4: (slp st in nxt ch1 sp, dc, & ch1 sp) ch 1, sc in same ch1 sp *(ch 4, [skp the nxt, dc, ch1 sp, & dc] sc in nxt ch1 sp; ch4 [skp dc, ch1sp, sc, ch1 sp., & dc] sc in nxt ch1 sp )* {12, 13, 14, 15, 16} more x {17, 18, 19, 20, 21} more x; join w/slp st in beg sc.
(28, 30, 32, 34, 36 ch4 arches) (38, 40, 42, 44, 46 ch4 arches)
Round 5 thru {24, 24, 24, 26, 26} {26, 28, 28, 30, 30} Repeat Round 3 thru 4 in consecutive order.This sequence needs to end on an arch round
This and all remaining Fan rounds will have a ch2 before and after each fan.
Round: {25, 25, 25, 27, 27} {27, 29, 29, 31, 31} slp st in 1st arch, ch2, sc in same arch, ch2; Fan in nxt arch, ch2; *sc in nxt arch, ch2; Fan in nxt arch, ch2; * Repeat {12, 13, 14, 15, 16} more x {17, 18, 19, 20, 21} more x; join w/slp st to beg. sc.
(14, 15, 16, 17, 18 fans) (19, 20, 21, 22, 23 fans)
This and all arch rounds will have a ch4 arch then a ch5 arch.
Round: {26, 26, 26, 28, 28} {28, 30, 30, 32, 32} (slp st in nxt ch sp 2x, dc, & ch1 sp) ch 1, sc in same ch1 sp *(ch 4, [skp the nxt, dc, ch1 sp, & dc] sc in nxt ch1 sp; ch5 [skp dc, ch1sp, sc, ch1 sp., & dc] sc in nxt ch1 sp )* {12, 13, 14, 15, 16} more x {17, 18, 19, 20, 21} more x; ch5, join w/slp st in beg sc.

Fan Round
Round: {27, 27, 27, 29, 29} {29, 31, 31, 33, 33} Repeat Round: {25, 25, 25, 27, 27} {27, 29, 29, 31, 31}
I am discontinuing the round numbers here in hopes of keeping down confusion.
Arch Round then Fan Round. Your last round will be a Fan round. Find the size you are working on and proceed to repeat the rounds in order, as many times at stated.
{*26&25*4x, *26&25*4x, *26&25*5x, *28&27*5x, *28&27*6x} {*28&27*7x, *30&29*7x, *30&29*8x, *32&31*8x, *32&31*9x}
Edge Round: Ripple Stitch (note: make sure to slp st into each ch of the ch2 space’s. Your edge will flatten out when blocked. I like to use the steam block method. It’s easy and gives a smooth appearance to the edge.
Last Round *ch1, slp st in nxt st;* repeat around, join w/slp st in beg. st; fasten off weave in all ends.

Waistband – Round number’s will start over.
Round 1: With right side facing you, join/w slp st, at beg. sc at the foundation ch; ch1, *sc in sc, 3sc in ch sp.* Repeat around, join w/slp st to beg. sc.

Round 2: ch1, hdc in joining st and in each st around, join w/slp st to beg. hdc.

Round 3 & 4: (beg. ch2 does not count as st.) ch2, fp hdc in joining st, bp hdc in nxt st; *fp hdc in nxt st, bp hdc in nxt st.* repeat around, join w/slp st to beg. fp hdc; finish off at the end of round 4. Weave in all ends. H=1”
Crochet a chain length that is approximately 40” longer than your waist measurement or cut a length of satin ribbon that is approximately 42” longer than your waist measurement. The extra leaves room for trimming.
Thread the chain length or ribbon behind the fp hdc of round 3. I suggest that you start the threading your tie where you joined at round 1.
