A collapsible storage cube that is covered in lace, is perfect to stuff full of gifts, for the new bride or mother to be.
You won’t need to wrap it with paper, just put it on the gift table, because you have already wrapped it in lace. I have designed other collapsible storage cube covers. The gray and white chevron is free, and there is an ebook that includes the entire collection pictured below.

I made a few changes so that the lace would be taut, and fit around the cube. It’s still the same stitch, but the number of stitches to skip was needed for a good fit.
The Candle Light Lace Cover is the second design, the first was the Sunspray Lace Cover. It partially covers the box which is so elegant.
FAQ Can I use this idea and crochet pattern to fit any size collapsible cube or box?
1. Yes. Follow the beginning steps on how to make the bottom fit any sized box or cube.
2. Then proceed to follow the pattern using the High Back Post Half Double Crochet to make the cover turn and start going “up” the sides of the box or cube.
3. Follow the crochet pattern for the Candle Light Lace stitch, using the stitch count information that is found below in the “Notes” section, to create the sides of the cover.
4. The lace cover will stretch. Take a few minutes to fit the cover around the box or cube. Then you will know when it is time to make the border.

Notes:
1.All charts will be read left to right.
2. The bottom will stretch and be taught if making it for a collapsible cube.
3. There are notes to help you if you choose to make your own cover.
You will need One Collapsible Cube:
This pattern will fit a 10.5” x 10.5” x 10.75” cube. This would be great to use on any box or cube. Follow the FAQ below to help you along.
FAQ Can I make this bigger or smaller?
1. This stitch design uses a multiple of 19 stitches. Take note of ending stitch count at “Round 2”. To produce the lace pattern add or subtract 11 stitches, depending on the size of box or cube that you are covering.
2. Any square or rectangle box or cube of any size can be used as long as the base covers the bottom. If covering a box, I recommend extending the base 1/4″ past the edge. If covering a collapsible cube I recommend the base be 1/4″ smaller. (See photos)
Yarn used:
Red Heart Super Saver (Aran) in beige, approx. 400 – 450 yds. You can use any stiff worsted weight yarn.
Hook:
H-8.5/5.00mm
Special Stitches:
V Stitch = dc, ch 2, dc in stitch or space indicated
Cross Stitch = Skip st, dc in nxt st, cross back passing hook in front of prev. sc, executing a dc in st that was skipped.

in = example “in nxt st” means you will be inserting the hook under the top two loops of the next

Candlelight Lace Cube Cover
Make a base of 31 chains
Row 1:
hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across; ch1, turn
(30 hdc)
Row 2-24:
hdc in each st across; ch1, turn (30 hdc)
Execute the ch1, but DO NOT turn at the end of Round 24
Square Base is 10” x 10” The base will need to be slightly smaller if covering a cube, so that it will be taut and not sag.
Following instructions will use rounds instead of rows. Do not turn throughout the rest of the pattern.
You will execute the corners (3 sc stitches) into the upper part of a hdc stitch, or a turning chain that was made while making the base. The corner execution will not be executed under the two loops of a hdc stitch, it will always be a side corner of a hdc or a turning ch, which ever applies.
Round 1:
3 sc at the corner; 30 sc evenly spaced down the 1st side; 3 sc at 2nd corner; 30 sc across the next edge; 3 sc at 3rd corner; 30 sc evenly spaced up the 3rd side; 3 sc in 4th corner, 30 sc across the last edge; join w/slp st to beg. ch1 (132 sc)
Round 2:
ch1, bp hdc completely around; join w/slp st to beg. sc. (132 bp hdc)
Note the bottom will stretch to fit around the corners. This stretching is essential to keep the bottom from sagging.
Round 3:
ch1; *(sc in nxt hdc) 3x; ch 3, skp 4 hdc, V stitch in nxt hdc; ch 3, skp 3 hdc;* 13x; join w/slp st to beg. sc.
Round 4:
slp st in nxt sc, ch 1, *sc in 2nd sc of prev. 3 sc’s; ch 4, shell in ch 2 sp. of V stitch, ch4;* 13x; join w/slp st to beg. sc.
Note: Do not hank and pull the slp st’s, they should be loose. You are walking your yarn into position.
Round 5:
slp st in sc and in each ch of prev. ch 4, ch 1; *(sc in nxt dc) 5x; ch 6;* 13x; join w/slp st to beg. sc.
Round 6:
ch 1,* skp 1 sc, (sc in nxt sc) 3x; ch 3, V stitch in 3rd ch of prev. ch 6; ch 3;* 13x; join w/slp st to beg. sc.

Repeat Rounds 4 thru 6 consecutively 5x.

Cross Stitch Round
Round 25:
ch 3(this counts as dc), Cross back going in front of the ch3, dc in the last sc of prev. round; Cross stitch around; join w/slp st to 3rd ch of beg. ch3. (59 cross stitches)
Round 26:
ch1, sc in joining st and in each st around; join w/slp st to beg. sc. (118 sc)
Use whatever method to block and shape the cover you would like. I recommend covering your cube or box in plastic, then proceed to dampen with water from a spray bottle, or use spray starch and shape the cover in place. Use hot glue or favorite gluing method to attach to the cube or box. I do not recommend spray glue as it attracts dirt.
