This crochet diamond basket looks complicated, but it is easy to crochet. The single crochet spike stitches create a diamond effect around the middle of the basket. You can easily crochet this Diamond Basket in an evening. Approximately 2 hours of Live Streaming, while happily crocheting away. The crochet pattern for the Diamond Basket can be purchased now at RAVELRY and ETSY. It will be an instant download.
I sometimes use affiliate links in my posts. This won’t cost you anything, but will help offset the cost of yarn and other supplies needed, so that I can continue bringing you crochet patterns and craft ideas. Thank you so much for your support.
This crochet Diamond Basket is so nice to sit in the foyer to catch your keys, gloves or a scarf.
It is just the right size to catch those little things you need to have on hand as you head out the door. Throw your gloves, keys or scarf in this basket, and they will be ready to grab as you head out the door.
There is a bit of softness to this basket.
A bit of softness is to be expected. If you use a stiff yarn like Red Heart Super Saver, and hold two strands of yarn, this will help create stiffness. A K-10.5/6.5mm is used for the bottom of the basket. Then a switch to a J/10/6.00mm crochet hook for the sides of the Diamond basket, will create a stiffer side to the basket.
This crochet basket is considered advanced beginner to intermediate.
If you are a crochet artist who is ready to try new things, then this crochet Diamond Basket is for you. It is a great basket to crochet if you are experienced, as it is so quick to make, and so useful to have around the home.
The Spike Single Crochet Stitch is featured in this crochet basket.
The diamond effect is easy as you will place 2 spike single crochet stitches into one stitch, that is 2 rounds below. When you insert the hook 2 rounds below, you draw up the loops to the sc height of the round you are working on. Then execute a second sc spk st (single crochet spike stitch) in the same stitch that is two rounds below.
The handles on the Diamond Basket are easy to create.
A simple chain is executed. Then skipping the same amount of stitches to match the number of chains you executed is how the handles are made. Then after executing two more rounds of sc stitches, finish with an optional crab stitch edge.
The crab stitch or reverse sc is fun.
Once you get the hang of the crab stitch, you will find yourself using it as an edge on many of your crochet projects. I like this photo tutorial by Spruce Crafts on how to execute the crab stitch. I also like this youtube video by Moogly on how to do the crab stitch.
The Diamond Basket also features the High Back Post Half Double Crochet Stitch.
I love using the hbp hdc stich in the baskets I design. If you continue in the pattern as it is written, it can create a 90 degree angle, causing the body of the basket to turn away from the bottom of the basket. This helps create the sides of the basket. This technique also makes a unique ridge for the basket to sit on. I also go down one hook size as this helps stiffen the sides of the basket.
The video below will demonstrate how to crochet the Diamond Basket

This particular crochet Diamond Basket is a bit rounded at the base of the basket.
I like the roundness at the bottom of the basket. It was a pleasant surprise. The reason the basket rounded out a bit is because of the weight of the spike sc stitches. The amount of yarn that is placed in the middle of the basket, is greater than the yarn that is at the base, so this causes a soft roll or drape.
Two different colored brown yarns were held when the Diamond Basket was crocheted.
I used Red Heart Super Saver and a small amount of I Love This Yarn; Approx. 300 yds of MC = 1 strand each of Cafe Latte & Warm Brown;, 125 yds of CC1 = Black; 125 yds of CC2 = Cream, I Love This Yarn
You can easily make this basket to reflect the Holiday you are celebrating.
I love this Valentine’s version. Sewing little heart appliques on the basket make it a perfect container to hold gifts.

Yes, you are holding two strands of yarn while making the basket.
