Stitch Guide
Mini Popcorn or Nub Stitch
= insert hook in nxt st; pull up a loop; CH 2 with the loop you just pulled up; 2 loops on hook; YO pull thru all loops on hook, Push the chains to the front of your work when executing the next st…mini popcorn is made. 

join w/ = join with
SLP ST = Slip Stitch
CH = Chain
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
nxt = Next
*  * = Repeat between the stars the number of times stated
x = Times; example Repeat 2 x or 2 times; 3 x or 3 times and so on;
in = example “in nxt st” means you will be inserting the hook under the top two loops of the next stitch

2 – 18” & 2 – 15” pieces of flat/pre-gathered lace or ribbon of choice.
Pattern Notes:
Beginning Chain does not count as a stitch

Square Washcloth
Beginning Chain
– CH 20 (Chain the foundation Chain in a loose fashion)

Row 1: SC in 2nd CH from hook and in each CH across; CH1 and Turn  (This is your foundation, and executing your SC loosely is advised. It will keep the base from curling.) (19 SC)

Row 2: *SC in 1st st; Mini popcorn in nxt st, SC in nxt st; * 12x; CH 1, Turn (19 stitches)

Row 3: SC in 1st st, and in each st across; CH 1, Turn (19 Stiches)

Row 4: *SC in 1st st; Mini popcorn in nxt st, SC in nxt st; * 12x; CH 1, Turn (19 stitches)

Row 5 – 18: Repeat Rows 3 & 4 consecutively; Note: at the end of Row 18, do not Turn

Edging Rounds will follow (Round numbers will start over)
Round 1: CH 1, 17 SC spaced evenly down the side; 3 SC at corner; 17 SC across the bottom; w/3 SC in nxt corner; 17 SC up the other side; 3 SC at corner; 17 SC across the top; ending with 3 SC at last corner; join w/SLP ST when you arrive back at the beginning. (17 SC on each side of washcloth; 17 SC across the top and bottom; with 3 SC at each corner; 80 total stitches)

b)CH 1, Do not skip st, HDC in nxt st; CH 1, Skip nxt st; HDC in nxt st; CH 1, Do not skip st, HDC in nxt st;
c)CH 1, Skip st, HDC in nxt st, CH 3, HDC in same st, (this should be your corner);

Side 2: a)* CH 1, Skip nxt st; HDC in nxt st; * 8x;
b)CH 1, Do not skip st, HDC in nxt st; CH 1, Skip nxt st; HDC in nxt st; CH 1, Do not skip st, HDC in nxt st;
c)CH 1, Skip st, HDC in nxt st, CH 3, HDC in same st, (this should be corner);

Side 3: Repeat Side 2

Side 4: a) * CH 1, Skip nxt st; HDC in nxt st; * 8x;

Lace edge will consist of 2 HDC, CH 3, and two more HDC in CH 1 space; putting a SC in the nxt CH 1 space. When you are at the corners, you will execute 3 HDC, CH 3, 3 HDC in a CH 1 space.

Round 3:  Side 1: *HDC (2x), CH3, HDC (2x) in/under 1st CH 1 sp; SC in nxt CH 1 sp; * 5x; Corner- HDC (3x), CH 3, HDC (3x) in/under CH 3 sp;

Side 2: SC in/under CH 1 sp; * HDC (2x), CH 3, HDC (2x) in/under CH 1 sp;
SC in/under CH 1 sp in nxt; * 5x; Corner – HDC (3x), CH 3, HDC (3x) in/under CH 3 sp;

Side 3: SC in/under CH 1 sp; * HDC (2x), CH 3, HDC (2x) in/under CH 1 sp;
SC in/under CH 1 sp in nxt; * 5x; Corner – HDC (3x), CH 3, HDC (3x) in/under CH 3 sp;

Side 4: SC in/under CH 1 sp; * HDC (2x), CH 3, HDC (2x) in/under CH 1 sp;

This next round is the finishing edge to the lace, you will be skipping all SC stitches, and executing a SC in each HDC, with a sequence of SC (2x), CH 2, SC (2x) in the CH 3 spaces. Remember that each corner has a total of 6 HDC.
Round 4: * SC in nxt st (2x); SC (2x), CH 2, SC (2x) in/under CH 3 space; SC in nxt st (2x); Skip nxt st; at corners SC in nxt st (3x); SC (2x), CH 2, SC (2x) in/under CH 3 space; SC in nxt st (2x)* Complete this sequence around, joining w/ SLP ST to beg. SC. End off, weave in a secure yarn ends.

Weave lace through the beading and tie in knots at the corner and trim. This is also cute with ribbon bows at the corners. Embellishing these sweet and Fancy Washcloths is so much fun…and they make great gifts too!

Picture Tutorial

When executing the edge round across the bottom row, where the Beginning  CH that has a row of SC worked into it, if you drop below the SC Row, it will look like one row of edging.

Pic1 has an arrow pointing to the opening where you should insert your hook.

Pic 2 is showing how the loop has been drawn up to make the SC.

Pic 3 Shows that this gives the illusion of one SC row.
