It’s time to announce the winner’s of Crochet Runway! The competition was amazing! Our designer judges have made their decision’s and without further ado, here are the winners! Winner for the Best Use Of Color
Tanya Marie won in a very tough category, but the designer’s chose her color scheme. She has told us many times that she gets inspiration from nature on how to put colors together when she is crocheting. Great job Tanya!
The designers also gave nods of admiration to Carol Burns, Betty Draskinis, Joanna Brubaker, Wendy Cohoon, Tammie Baughman, Barbara Lafayette, Darlene Bulthuisand and Christina Tuhy.
Arunima of Knitter Knotter loves Deborah Thurmond’s use of color, and how it shows off the laceyness of the design.
Winner for the Best Edging
Tammie Baughman really thought outside the box when adding a spike. She says, “This is my second poncho. I used Red Heart and I Love This Yarn leftovers from my stash. I thought it turned out to look like trees and leaves, so I mimicked leaves by using a puff spike stitch on the collar.”
The judges loved her story and so do I!
The judges also gave nods of admiration to Jolena Smith and Valli Lampkin in this category. They also liked Amy Stuck’s picot edge.
Winner for being the Most Innovative
Maria Johansson is from Sweden and the judges were very impressed with her poncho. Marie says, “I made the over the mountain poncho as my first bigger crochet project. I’ve crocheted since I was a child, but never had the confidence to try a bigger piece. I fell totally in love with the pattern just from the pictures and as I started working with it it turned out to be super lovely, so well written and A LOT of FUN! I’m so happy I tried it out.
I made the poncho with järbo cookie Bohemian. As an addition to the pattern I made a fan based neckline, added little tassels and made some wrist warmers. (The wrist warmers are made from a free pattern on drops design). Now I call it my over the mountain hug! It’s warm, cozy, embraces me and gives my a nice, happy, cozy feeling – like a hug!
I also learned that I don’t need to hesitate to try big patterns in another language. It works fine! So the project gives me soooo many new opportunity’s, opened many new doors.

The judges also gave nods of appreciation to, Jolena Smith for her neckline, and to Amy Barry Stuck for finding an alternative way of wearing her poncho. They were also impressed with Christine McDowell’s poncho, and how she added reflective yarn to give her mother added protection when she was out and about. Christine Naugle of Sweet Potato 3 was impressed with Valli Lampkin. She loved how she understood the value in the FP/BP and decreases and was able to explain why she made the adjustment at the neckline.
So much fun was had during the Over Brook Poncho CAL and then to end it with a competition was just icing on the cake. I hope you enjoyed Crochet Runway too!
