How cute is this little girl in this mesh cap? This mesh crochet cap is made with a soft worsted weight yarn in a mesh pattern. The brim is finished with a soft variegated fun fur yarn. The black and white, polka dot bow is just the icing on the cake to this sweet little hat.
I made this hat years ago when I was working with groups of ladies selling pageant wear on ebay boutique. It was a fun time, but ebay raised their rates and there was a mass exodus to Etsy.
I have really enjoyed my time on Etsy and it continues to be a fun place. When I started using Etsy the only internet we had access to was dial – up. It took forever to load my photos. I have vague memories of using a compressor. I would spend an hour or more trying to list my items. Now it’s a snap.

This is an older pattern, and reflects my “beginner style” of writing patterns. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Yarn:
Caron simply soft brites. Colorway – Coconut for base of hat. approx. 200 yds.
Trim: Lion Brand Fun Fur. Colorway – Stripes Night Sky
Supplies: Black and White Polka Dot Bow – 1 ½” Grosgrain Ribbon Bow
Gauge and Size:
2”= 8 stitches in pattern stitch(dc,ch1,dc)
2t-7yrs=16”to 18” head circumference *NOTE* Instructions for
4t-7yrs are in ( ) starting at Rnd. 5, to the end of pattern.
HOOK:H/8/5MM H/8-5.00mm crochet hook, or hook needed to obtain gauge
Stitch Key:
sc = single crochet
dc = Double Crochet
ch = chain
slpst = slip stitch
in sp. = execute st. by going under the CH that is creating the sp. Do not execute st. directly into a CH
SP = space
nxt = next
beg. = beginning
st = stitch
• With Coconut, Ch4, join in ring
• Rnd 1: ch3 (this counts as 1st dc) work 13 dc in ring. Join with slp st, in top of beg ch3. (14 dc around)
• Rnd. 2: ch 4, (dc, ch1,dc) in nxt dc, ch1 *(dc, ch1) in nxt dc, (dc, ch1, dc, ch1) in nxt dc* : Repeat from *to* around; join with slp st in 3rd ch of beg ch. (21 ch-1 spaces around)
Please repeat what is between the [ ] the number of times stated, thru the rest of the pattern
• Rnd. 3: Slp st in 1st ch-1 sp, (which is the 4thch, of the beg ch, of rnd 2); ch4, (counts as 1dc with a ch-1 sp); [(dc, ch1) in next ch-1 sp] 2 times, (dc, ch1,dc,ch1) in nxt ch1 sp, *[(dc, ch1) in nxt ch-1 sp] 3 times; (dc, ch1, dc, ch1) in nxt ch-1 sp* repeat from*to* 3 times; [(dc, ch1) in nxt ch1 sp] 4 times; (dc, ch1, dc, ch1) in nxt ch-1 sp; join with slp st, in 3rdch of beg ch-4. • Rnd. 5-10:(4t-7yrs Rnd5-13) Slp st in 1st ch-1 space, (which is the 4th ch of the beg, ch of rnd 4); ch4, (counts as 1dc with a ch-1 space); (dc, ch1) in next ch-1 space around. Join with slp st, in 3rd ch of beg ch4[Do not ch 4 at the end of Rnd10 (13)]
• Rnd. 11: (Rnd. 14) ch1 sc, in top of joining st, sc in each ch-1 space, and each dc around. Join in top of first sc.(60 sc)
• Rnd. 12: (Rnd.15) ch1, 2 sc in top of joining st, 1 sc in nxt st, 4 times, * 2 sc in nxt st, 1 sc in nxt 4 sts* repeat between * * to end of row, Join in top of 1st sc.
• Rnd. 13: (Rnd, 16) ch1, sc in top of joining st, and in each sc around. Slp st in top of 1st sc
• From wrong side, attach Stripes night sky, fun fur, and repeat Rnd. 1, (Rnd. 16), five more times, and end off. Be sure to crochet from the wrong side, so that the fluffy side of the yarn, shows on the right side. Leave enough of a tail to weave down to where the yarn was attached, and tie in several knots to secure. I also tie the yarn into the knot. This yarn is a little slippery, and can come unraveled. I will sometimes sew the knot to the brim, with needle and thread, if it
seems a little unstable.
Sew on the bow, attaching it to the brim, just above the first row of fun fur.
