How to crochet a simple flower is easy and fast. They are lovely on a chemo cap or beanie. Sew them on to the brim and put a fancy button in the center of the flower for a little bit of sparkle. You could mindlessly crochet these simple flowers while watching your favorite shows. Then sew them together for a beautiful shawl or a beach cover up.
Any yarn can be used to make a simple flower.
I prefer a solid color or tweed yarn. A variegated yarn will work, as long as the color changes aren’t drastic and it is pleasing to look at. Sharp changes in color will break up the symmetry of the flower petals, and take away from the definition of the petals.
Crocheting a simple flower only requires scrap bits of yarn.

3 Different Sizes Of The Simple Flower
This simple flower in the photo above was made and added to a chemo cap that I designed recently. I used Lion Brand Coboo Yarn (3) and a G–6/4.0mm crochet hook. This will make a small flower that is approx. 2.75 (6.985 cm) wide x 2.75 (6.985 cm)
If you would like a larger flower, use an I-9/5.50mm crochet hook and (4) worsted weight yarn. 3″ (7.62 cm) wide x 3.5″ (8.89 cm) high. I used Red Heart Super Saver for the demonstration photo.
You can always make a bigger flower by using an L-11/8mm crochet hook and a (5) yarn. I think you get the idea. The bigger the yarn and the bigger the hook, the bigger the flower. 4.5″. I used Michael’s brand Charisma Yarn for the demonstration photo. It is a variegated yarn, and the color changes are subtle, and it doesn’t seem to take away from the definition of the flower.

How to Crochet A Simple Flower
This flower uses basic stitches. A working knowledge of ch, sc, hdc, dc, joining in a ring, and slp st will be needed. A Stitch guide can be found above the video.
You will need scrap bits of yarn for this project.
ch 3 or 4 and join in a ring (you may use a magic circle if you desire)
Round 1:
beg. ch4 counts as a sc & ch3
ch4, sc in the ring; *ch3, sc in ring;* 4x: join with slp st in 1
ch of beg. ch4 (5 loops around the ring)
Round 2:
ch1, *sc, hdc, 3dc, hdc, sc under the ch3 loop;* 5x; join w/slp st to beg. sc; End off. Weave yarn down to the center of the flower, at the back of the work. Use the tail or tails for sewing on to a hat or what ever item you desire.
