The Over Brook baby blanket has a unique set of stitches. It is inspired by the crochet stitches that are in the Over Brook Poncho. You will see new stitches in the first part of the baby blanket. I also eliminated one set of lacey stitches. This is part of a free CAL, but if you don’t want to wait, you can purchase the ad free pdf at RAVELRY and ETSY.
Designing the Over Brook Baby Blanket was a joy!
In order to achieve the color placement that I wanted to present. Two cakes of yarn had to be cut apart, and all of the matching colors were wound into one ball. It was important to follow the color order that was in the first cake, which wasn’t hard at all.. There is a Live video at Krissy’s Over The Mountain Crochet and Crafts that gives even more detail. There is a snippet of information about how to use worsted weight yarn too.
The yarn I used was Mandala Sparkle in the colorway Draco.
I used an H crochet hook. I think it’s the right hook for a (3) DK weight yarn. Imagine this in a solid colored yarn, using a (4) worsted weight yarn and a J hook. Step it up a notch with scrumptious velvet (5) bulky weight yarn. That would bring this design to a whole new level of beauty. The texture would be amazing. I recommend a K hook for that project.
There are many other yarns that can be used for the Over Brook Baby Blanket.
The Crochet Along is underway now, and a few have been posting their makes. Here is a link if you would like to see others creations using this pattern. You will see some beginnings that are using Mandala Ombre, (4) or worsted/aran weight yarn. They are using a larger hook, which is the recommendation for this design.
The transition rounds in this crochet pattern, is the best place to change up color.
When using a solid colored yarn, the sky is limit on how to add color. Use all 7 rounds to present a contrasting color, or use the Cross st, or Xst round only. I can think of so many different ways to add contrasting colors to this baby blanket. Wouldn’t the Over Brook Baby Blanket be beautiful as a Christmas Blanket?

7. If you choose to use worsted weight yarn, I recommend a J/6.0mm crochet hook.

4 cakes of Mandala Sparkle. Light Weight #3; Colorway “Draco” was used.
Each cake has 3.5 oz/328 yds; 94% Acrylic, 6% Metallic Poly
I cut the last two cakes at each color change, to get the width of color that was desired. Videos will explain this.

H 8/5.00mm (If using a worsted weight yarn I recommend going up two hook sizes)
