It is super fast to crochet as you will be holding two strands of yarn, and a large crochet hook. The “Victorian Heirloom Basket” features a drop over lace edge.
The ad free pdf will include charts to help you along. It is important that you switch to a smaller crochet hook and use only one strand of yarn to make the lace. That bit of drop over lace is easy to crochet too!
This oval toilet paper basket is lovely.
It is the first crochet pattern to be released in the “Victorian Heirloom Bath Set”. My testers have fallen in love with this piece and they have already crocheted a few baskets for gift giving!

A New Color Combination
My daughter fell in love with this set, and requested that it be made in a yellow, gray, cream color combination. It’s a lovely color choice and will match her bedroom set.

MC = Main Color
CC = Contrasting Color
SLP ST = Slip Stitch
CH = Chain
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
H BP HDC = High Back Post Half Double Crochet
SP = Space
BLO = Back Loop Only
nxt = Next
* * = Repeat between the stars the number of times stated
x = Times; example Repeat 2 x or 2 times; 3 x or 3 times and so on
in = example “in nxt st” means you will be inserting the hook under the top two loops of the next stitch
to complete stitch or sequence of stitches stated.
( ) = sequence of stitches within parenthesis will be placed in the same stitch or space
[ ] = repeat sequence of stitches between brackets number of times or x
Pattern Notes:
1: Beginning CH or CH’s of each round, do not count as a stitch unless otherwise noted.
2: Shell = [DC in nxt CH 4 Space 3x, CH 3, [DC in same CH 4 space] 3x
3: Number rounds will start over when making the lace edge.
4: This basket was sized to fit three double roll of bathroom tissue. It will be a tight fit, as this keeps the
sides of the basket from drooping.
5. After making the lace edge, grab each point and give it a little pull, to help it look crisp and fancy.
Pictorial Instruction for High Back Post Half Double Crochet – H BP HDC and all charts are included in the ad free pdf that can be purchased on Ravelry or Etsy.

This technique will create a ridge and turn the stitches and change the direction of the stitches.

Round 2: CH 1; 2 HDC in joining st; 2 HDC in nxt st; [HDC in nxt st] 16x; [2 HDC in nxt st] 5x; [HDC in nxt st] 16x; [2 HDC in nxt st] 3x; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC made (52 HDC)
Round 3: CH 1; 2 HDC in joining st; 2 HDC in nxt st; [HDC in nxt st] 20x more; [2 HDC in nxt st] 6x; [HDC in nxt st] 20x; [2 HDC in nxt st] 4x; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC made (64 HDC)

Round 5: CH 1; HP BP HDC; in each st around; (76 H BP HDC)
Use “K” hook
Round 6 – 12: CH 1; HDC in joining ST and in each ST around; Drop MC and pull up two strands of CC at last pull through of last ST of Round 12; (76 HDC) !!!Please color change!!! it is important!!!
Round 13: HDC in joining ST and in each ST around; join w/SLP ST in beg. HDC; drop and end off one strand of yarn at the end of this round, you will be using only one strand of yarn throughout the rest of the pattern (76 HDC) Instruction for Lace Edge is found below the chart.
Drop Over Lace Edge (Please use “G” hook for next step)
Note: You will use one strand only while executing the lace edge
Round 1: CH 1 and turn so that you are looking inside the basket;
SC in BLO of 1st st, CH 4, skp 1 st, SC in BLO of nxt ST;[CH 4, skp 1 st, SC in BLO of nxt ST; ] 36x; CH 4; skp 1 st; SC in BLO of nxt ST; CH 4, join w/SLP ST in beginning SC. (38 CH 4 spaces)
Round 2: SLP ST in 1st CH of CH 4 space, CH3, this counts as 1st DC; [DC in CH 4 space] 2x, CH 3, [DC in same CH 4 space] 3x; SC in nxt CH 4 sp; [Shell, SC in nxt CH 4 sp] 17x; join w/SLP ST to 3rd Ch of beginning CH 3 (19 shells w/19 SC)
Round 3: (Note: all SC stitches of the previous round will be skipped during this next sequence) CH1; SC in joining ST, [SC in nxt st] 2x ; SC in CH 3 sp, CH2, SC in same CH 3 sp; [SC in nxt st] 3x; *Skip SC; [SC in nxt st] 3x; SC in CH 3 sp, CH2, SC in same CH 3 sp; [SC in nxt st] 3x * 18x; join w/SLP ST in beginning SC; end off secure and weave in all ends.
I have a few other jar cover crochet patterns.
