Christmas Towel Topper

Crochet a Christmas Towel Topper, and sew it on to a lovely kitchen towel. I love the functionality of a towel topper, but I also like a unique design. Here is my spin on a crocheted towel topper. Application 1 is sewn on to the corner of a towel creating a bias drape, that is beautiful. The pink Towel Topper is my tribute to Breast Cancer Awareness and it is sewn across the width of the towel using Application 2. You can read more on this at my ABOUT page.

I sometimes use affiliate links in my posts. This won’t cost you anything, but will help offset the cost of yarn and other supplies needed, so that I can continue bringing you crochet patterns and craft ideas. Thank you so much for your support.

This is a trendy item to take to a craft show, plus they are great for gift giving. When you find a cute towel that has an all over print, Use Application 1. If you find a towel that has a large artwork motif, use Application 2. You will find the directions at the end of the free crochet pattern found below, or you can watch this video to help you decide which application you would like to use.

Christmas Towel Topper

Yarn Used:

Any (4) cotton yarn. It can be dishcloth yarn as well.  I used a combination of yarns that I had on hand. MC= White; CC1 Red or Pink; I have used acrylic yarn for this type of towel topper, but I highly recommend using cotton yarn.

Towel Topper -MC = White – 35 yds; CC1 = Red, Blue or Pink- 15 yds

Gauge:

Not applicable

Hooks

H-8/5.00 mm

Stitch Guide:

MC = Main Color = White

CC1 = Contrasting Color = Red or Pink (For Breast Cancer Awareness)

ch = Chain

sc = Single Crochet

dc = Double Crochet

join w/ = join with

slp st = Slip Stitch

skp = Skip

sp. = Space

nxt = Next

prev. = previous

st./st’s = stitch or stitches

beg. = beginning

* * = Complete sequence between the stars, the number of times stated;

x = Times; example Repeat 2 x or 2 times; 3 x or 3 times and so on;

in = example “in nxt st” means you will be inserting the hook under the top two loops of the next stitch to complete stitch or sequence of stitches stated

yo = Yarn Over

Special Stitch Guide:

mb = Mini Bean Stitch = insert hook into the stitch indicated, draw up a loop, yo, insert hook into the same st, draw up a loop, yo, draw thru all 4 loops on hook, ch 1 to close the stitch.

The mb stitch is a unique cluster stitch. When the pattern is worked in rows each row of stitches has a right and left tilt.  It is easy to use the ch 1 space to execute the cluster, but it will not give you the right, left tilt. The video below will show you how to crochet the mini bean stitch.

How to sew the Christmas Towel Topper on to the Towel. Watch this video for a demonstration of both applications.

APPLICATION 1 (OPTIMAL APPLICATION)

Sew the pumpkin towel topper to a corner at the “front” of the towel. Applying the pumpkin towel topper in this manner makes the towel topper offset, and the towel hangs in a beautiful, bias drape fashion. I love how the towel can be grabbed and messed with, and will not look bedraggled and worn.

APPLICATION 2 (BEST FOR A TOWEL WITH A LARGE ARTWORK MOTIF)

This is the best way to add the towel topper to a kitchen towel that has a large “one-way” artwork motif to the front. The towel topper is applied to the back of the towel, 4″ from the bottom. Make sure to fold those bottom corners back and sew them into place.

The photo below is showing two other towel topper designs. The Pumpkin Cluster Towel Topper is the all time favorite. A lot of folks love the Lemon Farmhouse Towel Topper too.
