The double wrapped double crochet cluster stitch is a fun tutorial. I hope you will join me and learn how to crochet this unique cluster stitch. There is a unique look to the front and the back of the stitch. Some days I like the front, and some days I like the back.
I sometimes use affiliate links in my posts. This won’t cost you anything, but will help offset the cost of yarn and other supplies needed, so that I can continue bringing you crochet patterns and craft ideas. Thank you so much for your support.
The back of the double wrapped cluster is just as pretty.
It seems to be fatter and the top loops don’t show as much. If you use this stitch to create with, you can choose which side you like the best.
I learned how to crochet this unique crochet cluster stitch in the early 1980’s, using a crochet pattern written by Alice Fowler.
I found an advertisement in a craft or crochet magazine. The pattern number 1178 was ordered, and they sent a catalog. Several more of her beautiful patterns were purchased. Over the years many of her designs have come off my hook, but this one little stitch stuck with me.
Something of note, before we proceed.
Her designs call for a bone crochet hook. Sadly that cannot be found. Here is a chart that was found online. It may be of help to you.
Almost 40 years later I went on to use this stitch to design a vintage inspired baby blanket, for my first grandchild.
This baby blanket is still one of my favorite makes. I hope to recreate it soon and have it as a free crochet pattern for you to enjoy here on this blog.
I used Doris Chan’s “All Shawl” stitches for the border.
Here’s the link that is found on Doris’ website. I used the chart and then made adjustments when I reached the corner. I left off the picot stitches. Now I wish I would have added them.
I have used this stitch in other designs over the years.
I don’t want to wear you out talking about my past makes. Surely you want to know what the steps are to crochet this unique stitch. First let me show you a chart. You will need a multiple of 11 + 4 stitches. The chart is finished with a picot edging on the last row of ch5 arches.
You will notice that the title of this chart refers to the Leafy Lace Wrap Edge.
Yes…that is another design that has been produced on my side of the mountain. Finishing the Leafy Lace Wrap has been a journey.
The leafy lace stitch became a collaboration between me and a good friend of mine. She designed this stitch for my followers. You need to visit her website. Handmade By StacyJ
While Stacy was waiting for me to finish writing the pattern for the Leafy Lace Wrap, she started playing with her Leafy Lace stitch. Soon a beautiful 4 day Afghan came off her hook using the leafy lace stitch. The blanket has a lovely border.
Mary Maxim picked up her design in a kit and sells it on their website! That is HUGE!. Check it out at this link. Feel free to purchase the 4 day throw kit, as Stacy will benefit from your purchase.
