FAQ’s How to Care for Cotton Crochet and Knit Dishcloths
1. How should I wash my cotton dishcloths?
- Machine Wash: Cotton dishcloths can be machine washed on a gentle cycle if you choose, but I wash mine on a regular cycle with warm or cold water.
- Hand Wash: If you prefer, you can also hand wash them using a mild detergent.
2. How should I dry my Orange and Clementine dishcloths?
- Air Dry: Hang them up to dry immediately after using them in the kitchen or bath. Use the handy stem loop you crocheted.
- Machine Dry: You can tumble dry on a medium to low setting, but be aware that this might cause some shrinkage.
3. Do I need to pre-wash my dishcloths before using them for the first time?
- Yes: You don’t have to, but it does help the dishcloth become more absorbent.
4. What should I do if my dishcloths become stained?
- Spot Clean: Treat stains promptly with a stain remover or by rubbing a small amount of detergent directly on the stain before washing.
5. How often should I wash my dishcloths?
- After Each Use: It’s a good practice to wash dishcloths frequently, ideally after each use, to prevent bacteria build-up.
6. How can I keep my dishcloths soft?
- Avoid Fabric Softener: Add a bit of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to keep them soft.
7. Will my dishcloths shrink?
- Some Shrinkage: Cotton does shrink when washed and dried, especially if exposed to high heat. Washing in cold water and air drying can minimize shrinkage.
10. How long will my cotton dishcloths last?
- Durability: With proper care, cotton dishcloths can last for several years. The lifespan will vary depending on how often they’re used and washed.Purchase the ad free pdf at that includes both the orange and clementine dishcloth at RAVELRY or ETSY.These cute dishcloths make fun gifts.

I’m a bit confused by this pattern. I don’t know if its a typo but how can row 6 also have the same amount of stitches as row 5? You have them both as 35 stitches but have increases in row 6. When I follow row 6 as written I get 45 stitches not 35. Am I reading it wrong?
Kris says
My apologies…that was more than a typo…I left out an entire round and that threw the whole thing off…well there was a typo too. I believe it is fixed now. If you need any other help, please let me know. Thank you for getting in touch with me.

Well, these are too cute. I see a basket of fruit next to my kitchen sink in the near future! Thanks!
Kris says
That’s a great idea! I have tried to make an apple, and it didn’t turn out very well…but I know I can make a pineapple, and maybe a puple plum for a bit of color. That would brighten things up, wouldn’t it?
Stephanie R says
This is really cute! I bet they work good
Kris says
Thank you…yes they would work well. They would be scrubby like a brillo pad.
Patricia Kennedy says
I love this dishcloth. I think it would be awesome next to my mandarin orange soap. Thank you for a chance to get this pattern today. Hope you have an amazing Saturday. We have a huge snow storm coming in.
Kris says
Oh…mandarin soap! That would be nice! I hope you enjoy using the crochet pattern. All photos of anything crocheted using my patterns is always a delight to see! My Saturday was great, now I am sitting here on Sunday morning, unable to go to church because of the snow. It’s not a huge snow, but too dangerous to drive over the mountain. I hope you all didn’t get too much snow.
