You will want this Bonfire Bucket Hat for those moments when you’re sitting around the fire in a rustic ski lodge, or around a bon fire.

With our tips and tricks you will quickly acheive the bucket shape everyone loves. To start this crochet journey, selecting the yarn will be easy, as there are quite a few different yarns to choose from. My first choice is Barcelona Yarn, but it’s discontinued and Impressions from Michaels has taken it’s place. Puzzle yarn by Premiere is another great substitute.

Another important moment in the creation of the Bonfire Bucket Hat is the execution of the brim. End the side of the hat with a round of sc stitches. The next round will be a front loop only round of st’s.

The stitch pattern will continue around the brim, with an increase every 11th stitch. Let’s get started! A  true Bucket from the 60’s has short sides and a shorter brim. K-10.5/6.50 mm

Gauge:
4” = 7 rows hdc x 4” = 12 hdc st’s

Stitch Key:
ch = Chain
sc = Single Crochet
dc = Double Crochet
h bp hdc = High Back Post Half Double Crochet – wrap the hook high around the post, above the third loop to execute a back post hdc follow video tutorial. Link is posted up above.

in = example “in nxt st” means you will be inserting the hook under the top two loops of the next stitch to complete stitch or sequence of stitches stated

If you would like the vintage 1960’s look, where the sides of the hat are shorter, eliminate two rounds and adjust the Round numbers accordingly. (sides of hat 3.5”)

Round 20: ch1, sc in flo of joining st; dc in flo of nxt st; *sc in flo in nxt st; dc in flo in nxt st;* 26x; sc in flo of last st; join w/slp st to beg. sc (55 st’s)

You will need to increase every 11th st. If you would like the 1960’s vintage look, of a shorter brim, eliminate 2 rounds, on the brim.
Round 21: ch1, sc in joining st, (sc in nxt st)9x; 2sc in nxt; *(sc in nxt st)10x; 2sc in nxt st;*4x; join w/slp st to beg. sc (60 sc)

If you would like a longer brim. Continue in the pattern and increase every 11th st.
