Pineapple Basket Free Crochet Pattern

On “My Side Of The Mountain” welcoming a guest is something we take seriously, because of that I will have a pineapple basket on my table this summer! This crochet pattern is fun and the pineapple has such a rich history.

In Colonial days it was considered a great honor if the hostess had the pineapple as a centerpiece on her table, as it meant she would spare no expense to care for her guests. This “Welcome Home Pineapple Basket” is one of three designs in my “Welcome Home Pineapple Collection“.

Crochet Pineapple Basket
In 1681 Christians held this as a symbol of their faith, as the plant gives it’s own life, to produce a single fruit. You will find the lovely pineapple carved into furniture, and architecture all over the world.

The crowning pineapple
So grab some Peaches and Cream Cotton yarn, and make a pineapple for your table, or make a few to give as gifts! You can make several in one evening while watching your favorite show!

The pattern is rated as an intermediate design. Hold two strands of yarn, and a large hook, then drop a strand when you make the lace crown.

You are “HIGH” about the main post of the stitch. A normal BP HDC is worked under the top 3 loops of the HDC, around the main post. The High BP HDC will be “above” the main post, up high, directly under the top two loops.

!Switch to “K-10.5/6.5mm” hook! Refer to “Cluster” in Special Stitches.
Round 6: (Continue holding two strands) CH 2 ; Cluster in 1st st, CH 1; [Skip ST, Cluster in nxt st, CH1;]19x; join w/SLP ST in 2nd CH of beg. CH 2; CH 2 and Turn (20 Clusters) Please refer to Cluster Photo Tutorial or watch the YouTube tutorial RIGHT HERE.

CLUSTER PHOTO TUTORIAL:

(Only one strand is being held in the pictures, but you will hold 2 to make the basket) The Cluster stitch is fun and unique. Each row of stitches has a right or left slant to it. Do not use the CH 1 space to execute a cluster, as it will not give you the right, left slant. The Pics below are showing where to insert your hook for the next row of clusters. Pic 1: Notice the arrows are pointing to the “V” where you insert your hook to execute the cluster stitch. You are executing the cluster directly into the cluster st.

Pic. 2 shows the cluster stitch that was made, and how it slants when you execute the next Cluster stitch.
