Learn how to crochet a textured bucket hat using this free pattern. This uses a bulky weight yarn and the texture happens, when you add a slight ripple stitch. This bucket hat is very beginner friendly. Purchase the pdf that is without ads on RAVELRY or ETSY.
I love to crochet bucket hats using a bulky yarn.
It gives the hat a bit of stiffness. The yarn I used has it’s own texture. It was a single ply that looks a bit like roving fiber that is wrapped with a small strand of yarn.
This Bucket Hat is so soft but it is stiff enough for that brim to stay in place.
That is why I love to use bulky yarn to design a bucket hat. The brim won’t get all droopy on you. You can fold it back a bit or just let it hang naturally.
The yarn I used is Michaels Brand, Loops and Threads, Carousel Twist, in the colorway Pastel Rainbow.
You can also use Lion Brand, and I believe Hobby Lobby has this type of yarn. Here is a link from Yarnsub.com that will show you the different kinds of yarn that can be used when crocheting this hat.
This Boucle type of yarn is fairly easy to work with.
Years ago I used a similar yarn to design Chemo Caps. These hats are designed for someone who has had a total loss of hair. They would be too tight for a person who has a full head of hair.
- Childs Chemo Cap for Kids using super Bulky Yarn. Even though this is one is made with a (6) Lion Brand Thick and Quick, the yarn has the same Boucle, Roving Fiber with a small strand of yarn twisted around it. Same type of texture, but a bit thicker. Here is a link from Yarnsub.com that will show you what other yarns are compatable.
- The Young Girls Chemo Cap with Fancy Brim options was the next chemo cap that I designed using Boucle, bulky yarn. It is a good fit for tweens and adults ex small who have lost their hair.
- The Easy Womans Chemo Cap is a favorite of so many. There are so many that have crocheted it and have added their photo to the ravelry database project page.
I have fought my own battle with breast cancer and won!
I am so thankful for my God, my family and for my church family helping during that trying time. You can read more about that HERE
After my Cancer diagnosis, I have made it a mission to design beautiful and functional chemo caps. All of them are free here on this website. I also have a few video tutorials on YouTube, showing you how easy it is to crochet chemo caps.
Because the bucket hat is so pretty, I just had to design a matching cowl to go with it.
Cowls are so nice to add a bit of warmth. They easily fit into a purse or your coat pocket. They can also make a fashion statement.
Let’s face it, a cowl is a quick and fun project. So many different ways to style them and it usually doesn’t take too much yarn to crochet one. You will find the free crochet pattern for this Textured Bucket Hat is below this photo.
