Bead Embellishment Tutorial
Decorating a headband with beads is so much fun, and with a little bit of work, you can make yourself a unique headband for yourself or that special someone. I have tons of beads, and choosing the beads is a lot of fun. There are many different kinds of beads, big holed beads, medium holed beads, and small holed beads.
If you would like to have a tutorial with all photos included, purchase it at RAVELRY.
You can use embroidery floss, or fine or sport weight yarn to sew the medium holed beads on to your crocheted items.
When using wooden beads with a Large hole. You can use Chunky yarn to sew or just a worsted weight yarn to sew on to your crocheted items.
Supply list
36” piece of Beading wire
Wire cutters
Beads of choice
Matching sewing thread and needle
Small piece of matching felt
Hot glue or glue of choice
I want to inspire you to think outside the box. You can add crystal sew on cabochons, crystal and rhinestone buttons.
Play around with your beads, and make a choice.
You can use beading wire to run through small holed beads. Leave a 6” tail at the top.
Bend the long end of wire up toward the top, fussing with your beads to keep them strait, not letting the round beads fold to the back.
Crimp the wire to form around the bead at the top and bottom Pull your 6” piece of leftover wire down and crimp the wire to mold around the top and bottom bead, this will help hold your beads in place.
Gently twist your wires together, being careful not to twist it too hard, so that the bead stay in place.
Cut the excess wire off with wire cutters. Push the ends down.
Cut a small piece of felt. Trim the piece of felt to barely cover the wires. Glue the felt strip in place over the wires. Place a small dab of glue on the wires in the crimped area between the large and small bead. Do this on the top bead and bottom bead.
Place your beads on your headband where you would like them.
Using needle and sewing thread, proceed to SECURELY sew your beads to the headband at the top and the bottom, where the small bead meets the large bead. You can also go underneath and catch the felt with your needle and thread a few times, but it isn’t necessary.
