Why You’ll Love This Pumpkin Tower
Every year, I become obsessed with crocheting pumpkins—new ideas pop into my head, and I just have to bring them to life!
One year, I decided to make a really big pumpkin, but it needed texture. The result was a trio of beautifully textured pumpkins that begged for embellishments. That’s how the Lovely Pumpkin Tower was born.

If you’re wondering how big these beauties are, here’s a helpful size guide:
-
Large Pumpkin: 34″ around, 5.5″ tall
-
Medium Pumpkin: 30″ around, 4.5″ tall
-
Small Pumpkin: 26″ around, 3.5″ tall

Recommended Yarn
I recommend using worsted weight acrylic yarn for best results. Acrylic helps your pumpkins hold their shape and makes them easy to clean.
Great yarn options include:
-
Red Heart Super Saver – smooth and easy to work with
-
Vanna’s Choice – great stitch definition
-
I Love This Yarn! – very soft and comes in gorgeous fall colors
-
Caron Simply Soft – silky feel and beautiful sheen
Recommended Stuffing For The Crochet Pumpkins
You’ll need polyfil to stuff your pumpkins so they keep their shape.
Brands of polyfil you can use:
-
Poly-Fil Premium Fiber Fill (by Fairfield – most popular)
-
Mountain Mist Fiberloft
-
Hobbs Poly-Down
-
Crafter’s Choice Dry Polyester Fiberfill
Any of these will work great.

Tutorial on how to make a Lovely Pumpkin Tower.
Step 1 – Choose your pumpkins
Pick the pumpkins you’d like to stack together. Decide on lace or ribbon embellishments.
-
For the large, medium, and small pumpkins, each lace piece should be 22–24 inches long.
-
I prefer 3 pieces of lace (1.5″ wide) but you can use more or fewer.

Step 2- Stack the pumpkins
-
Arrange them in the order you love.
-
To secure them:
-
Use hot glue for a permanent tower (especially recommended for weddings).
-
Or use T-pins if you’d like to disassemble later.
-
-
Insert T-pins just under the edge of the pumpkin above, pushing into the pumpkin below.

Step 3 – Attach the first lace piece
-
Tuck one end under the stem.
-
Pin or glue in place.

Step 4 – Drape and secure the lace
-
Let the lace fall over the first pumpkin edge.
-
Tuck it under the pumpkin and secure with glue or pins.

Step 5 – Repeat for each layer
-
Let the lace cascade over each pumpkin edge and secure as you go.

Step 6 – Add additional lace pieces
-
Repeat steps for the second and third lace strips (or more if you like).

Step 7 – Prepare your bow
-
I love using an ivory satin pull tie bow.
-
Keep the loops large and the tails long for extra drama.
Step 8 – Attach the bow
-
Fold it in half at the knot and shape it.
-
Pin or glue next to the stem.

Step 8 – Attach the bow
-
Fold it in half at the knot and shape it.
-
Pin or glue next to the stem.

Step 9 – Glue or use a straight pin or pins to secure the pull tie bow into place.

I think an Ivory colored Satin Pull Tie Bow is a beautiful option. Leave the tails on your bow long and the loops a little bigger. Fold it in half and pin into place.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What yarn weight is best?
A: Worsted weight acrylic yarn is recommended for sturdy pumpkins that hold their shape.
Q: Can I use cotton yarn?
A: Yes! But keep in mind cotton has less stretch and your pumpkins will feel a bit denser.
Q: What if I want smaller pumpkins?
A: I have a free small pumpkin pattern here.
Q: Should I glue or pin my pumpkins?
A: For a permanent tower (especially for events), I recommend gluing. If you’d like to re-use the pumpkins separately, use T-pins.
