Let me show you how to Crochet Flower Egg Covers using this free Easter pattern. I had so much fun making these cute covers, and my testers did too! Imagine gifting a child a candy-filled plastic egg wrapped in a handmade Flower Egg Cover.
How sweet is that? Plus, the open-top design allows you to thread fishing line through the holes in the plastic eggs, so you can hang them from a tree or in your window for a festive spring display.
I had scraps of yarn left over from the Mesh Over Brook Poncho, and they looked like Easter, and I just had to do something with that delicious yarn!

Colorful & Fun Flower Egg Covers
The covers are quick, easy, and a great way to use up leftover DK-weight yarn from past projects. The variety of colors makes each egg cover unique, adding a bright and cheerful touch to Easter celebrations.
Perfect for Easter Treats
A Cadbury or Kinder egg fits perfectly inside, making them a delightful treat for little ones. Fill a plastic egg with candy, tuck it inside a Flower Egg Cover, and you have the cutest Easter surprise!
The open-top design also lets you thread fishing line through the holes in the egg, so you can hang them from an Easter tree or display them in a sunny window.

Add a ribbon or crochet chain just under the petals, and these egg covers turn into a sweet little change purse once Easter is over!

Flowered Egg Cover
EASY: Any 3 weight yarn, I chose Lion Brand’s Mandala yarn, in Robin Egg and Draco Sparkle, using the scraps left over from the Over Brook Mesh Poncho and other projects. Approx. 12 – 15 yds
Hook: G-6/4.0mm
Plastic Eggs that can be filled with candy. The size used for this pattern was 2.5” long, 5.5” around.
12”-14” of 1/8” ribbon (optional, but recommended if making change purse)
Special Stitches:
Petal: SC, HDC, 2DC, TRBL, 2DC, HDC, SC in CH 1 space indicated in pattern
Stitch Key
MC= Main Color
CC = Contrasting Color
SC = single crochet
DC = Double Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
TRBL = Treble Crochet
CH = chain
SLP ST = slip stitch
in sp. = execute st. by going under the CH that is creating the sp. Do not execute st. directly into a CH
SP = space
nxt = next
beg. = beginning
st = stitch
repeat between * * = repeat the sequence that is between the * * as many times as stated
x = times, will follow number, example repeat sequence 8 x or 8 times
NOTES:
1. If using a yarn that makes it too hard or tough to get your egg inside the cover, please go up a hook size. (ex. Caron Simply Soft, or some baby yarns could make it tight and tough to get the egg in)
2. If you want your flower petals to fold down, execute a turn at the beg. of Round 14.
3. One of my testers found that she liked changing colors at the end of Round 12 instead of at the end of Round 13
Using MC, CH 3 join in ring, or magic circle
Round 1: CH 1 (ch 1 does not count as a stitch throughout the rest of the pattern unless indicated otherwise) 10 HDC in ring; join w/SLP ST to beg. HDC

Round 2: CH 1, 2 HDC in joining st and in each stitch around; join w/SLP ST to beg. hdc (20 HDC)
Round 3-12: CH 1, SC in joining st and in each st around; join w/SLP ST to beg. sc (20 SC)
(See NOTE: 3)
Round 13: CH 1, SC in joining st; *CH 1, skp sc, SC in nxt sc;* 8 more x; CH 1, Drop MC and join w/SLP ST to beg. SC using CC (10 CH 1 sp.; 10 SC)
See Note 2: Petals turned up. See Note 2: Petals turned down.
Round 14: SLP ST in 1st ch1 sp.; *Petal (see special stitches) in nxt ch1 sp., SLP ST in nxt ch1 sp. * 3 more x; Join w/SLP ST into 1st SLP ST, End off and weave in all ends.
(5 flower petals)
Put plastic egg filled with candy into the flowered egg cover and give as a gift. You could also run a ribbon, or a CH string (70 CH’s) through the CH spaces you executed at Round 13. Wouldn’t a little one enjoy using it as a little coin purse after Easter is over.
Here is an advanced option to make double petals.

Another tester made one to look like a cactus, and then another one to look like a pineapple. How cool is that!
Karen says, I turned at round 13 then worked in back loops of rnd 12, then the petals. I continued in the front loops for another rnd of 13 and the petals.
