This post is a yarn review of Caron Cotton Ripple Cakes. I want to share with you my experience using this squishy yarn, that is sold in cakes in Michaels Stores, and can be purchased online. Below is a “video yarn review” of Caron Cotton Ripple Cakes, that is found on my Youtube channel. This was 2 years ago. You will find more specifics of the yarn below the video.

I used an H-8/5.00 mm crochet hook when I designed the Over Brook Cotton Tee. - Fiber Content – 100% cotton
- Texture – Plied and has a a slub construction. Read this website to understand Slub.
- Care – Machine Wash and Dry. I washed the Over Brook Cotton Tee in cold on a gentle cycle, and laid it flat to dry. So I am not sure if running it through the dryer would cause pilling.
- Colors – Self Striping in a basic solid color. Here is a link to Michaels Website, showing you the available colors.
Here is a list of things that I personally experienced and liked about Cotton Ripple Cakes.
- I love the subtle self striping color gradation of this yarn. I designed a top down tee, but I think this would also make a lovely side to side garment.
- The top down tee is heavy, but after all it is cotton.
- The yarn doesn’t split easily and would glide smoothly over my crochet hook.
- No knots. I personally didn’t find any knots that I can remember, while crocheting with this yarn.
- Thick and thin spots didn’t exist. I really liked that the weight of the yarn stayed consistent. There isn’t a “super fray” at the cut ends of the yarn.
-
Here is a list of things that I do not like about Caron Cotton Ripple Cakes.
- It isn’t always available. I really don’t like that the fact that you can’t easily purchase this yarn year round.
- I can’t think of anything else that I don’t like about this cotton yarn. I think I can say that I love this yarn. I highly recommend this yarn, if you can find it.
- You can now purchase this yarn online! Good News! I was happy to see that you can now purchase Caron Cotton Ripple cakes online at Michaels, and Walmart has vendors that are selling this yarn! YAY!
