How To Crochet A Multi Stitch Poncho | Free Pattern

Let me show you how to crochet a multi stitch poncho. This Over Brook Poncho is so fashionable and has been a great seller at craft shows. The crochet pattern for the Over Brook Poncho has been a best seller for me. You can easily make this poncho in a few evening, or two days time. You will find a free version of this poncho in size xs-small of the Over Brook Poncho if you keep scrolling but the complete pattern with charts can be purchased on etsy or ravelry. You can also purchase an EBOOK that is complete with all sizes and charts on etsy and ravelry.

The Over Brook Poncho was also a part of a huge CAL (Crochet Along) that was held in January and February of 2019.

I was amazed at the beautiful ponchos that were made. The colors were exquisite. Red Heart Ombre yarn is what I used for this xs-small design. It’s beautiful and there is no need to change colors.

I have to tell you about my favorite Over Brook Poncho that was made during the CAL.

It was made using possum yarn. It’s a product from New Zealand and Australia. This certain species of possums have become a pest. The Mohair and Possum Store has an article all about this cute but destructive little animal.

Over Brook Poncho

I hope you were able to attend the“Crochet Runway“.

It was quite the event! Crochet enthusiast’s entered their ponchos into a competition and boy was it an exciting event. All of the entries were outstanding. I am so thankful I didn’t have to choose the winners.

I invited Guest designers  to be the judges. There were three categories and let me tell you, the winning ponchos are beautiful. Every entry was beautiful!

This Over Brook Poncho inspired me to keep creating using the same stitches in a variety of ways. I even threw in a few extra stitches.

First is the “Extended Lace Over Brook Tunic”, 2nd is the “Mesh Over Brook Poncho” and last the is the “Over Brook Ponchette”. I think that ponchette would be soooooo pretty to wear with a wedding dress.

During the summer of 2019 I saw a where some crochet enthusiast’s entered the ponchos they had created in their local and state fairs. They were all sporting blue ribbons. Wow…that filled my heart with joy!

Over Brook Poncho Crochet Pattern XS-Small

Any Worsted weight yarn in colors desired. I used Red Heart in super saver or Ombre (No need to change colors if using Ombre or Scarfie) Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Yarn”; Lion Brand Scarfie:
MC = approx. 850 yds CC = Approx. 700 yds
(Yarn Advice: If using med. worsted weight (4) follow the size in the pattern) Hint…a lot of folks have used a 3 yarn to make these ponchos for their little girls.

NOTES:

1. Annotations have been added to the pattern that indicate the Right and Left side of the Poncho within each round. I found this to be an easy way to “keep my place”. Right Side or RS; Left Side or LS

2. This pattern includes charts in the purchased pattern that are not inclusive of every round. The charts are self-explanatory and are there as a guide only. If you are a beginner that is advancing, I recommend purchasing the pdf so that you will have the charts there to follow.

3. I have given some rounds a title. If I had to put my work on hold, this helped me find my place in the pattern when I was able to work on it again.

4. Pay attention to the V stitch in each round. Some rounds will have you execute a DC V, and others will have you execute a HDC V. (This does not apply to the TRBL V st.)

Using MC: Loosely Ch 92 put marker at 47th Chain. Be very careful not to twist, join in circle.

Block your poncho using your favorite method. I found the steam method to be easy. There are many you tube videos that show you how to do it.

Designer Notes to help you crochet this Multi Stitch Poncho:

  1. There are many ways to finish this neckline. I have added a photo tutorial if you would like to see how I have finished this neckline. 2. You can use a (3) weight yarn and go down one hook size to make this for a child.3. If you would like to use a (5) bulky use a smaller hook, and a smaller sized pattern. The Model in the photo below is using Lion Brand scarfie.4. This multi stitch poncho is the perfect palette to combine your favorite colors.
