Poncho Neckline Tutorial

This is it! The last part of the Over Brook Poncho CAL! The neckline! It’s time to get ready for “Crochet Runway”. Use this tutorial to put your own spin on the neckline. Use a unique stitch, make a ribbed collar, caped collar or a beautiful cowl. Use your design skills to wow the judges! Come to the group page to see what fun and unique edgings and necklines others are adding to their poncho, and to learn more about “Crochet Runway”

Neckline Tutorial
Adding 3 rounds of SC stitches, with a few decreases will help close in that neckline. Ending it with a Crab stitch is such a pretty treatment or you could add a simple shell edge.

neckline tutorial

Match the front of the neckline to the back of the neckline.

neckline
It will be an exact match.

neckline

Place markers at each shoulder and one at the center “V” area.

neckline

Place a marker, 5 stitches below the marker at the shoulder on each side. (I like to use bobbi pins)

Neckline
Place markers 5 stitches below the shoulder in the back, and at the center in the back also

neckline

The hook is inserted into position, ready to start, approx. 5 or 6 stitches above the center marker.

neckline
Do not insert your hook under that very top loop.

neckline

Do not insert your hook under that very top loop.

neckline

Proceed to SC around the neckline.
neckline
SC 2 together and skip the center marked stitch. This will decrease 3 stitches to 1 stitch.

neckline
SC 2 st. together when you reach the markers at the shoulder area, remember to SC 2 st. together and skip the center stitch, when you reach the marker at the center back. Replace the Center Marker and Shoulder Marker as pictured.
neckline

Before you SC around the neckline a second time, place a marker 10 stitches below the Shoulder marker in the front and back.

neckline

Proceed to SC around the neckline a second time. When you reach the markers, SC two st. together & skip that center stitch in the front and back. Replace the Center Marker and Shoulder Marker as pictured.

neckline

Before you SC around the neckline a third time, place a marker 3 stitches below the Shoulder marker in the front and back. Important! Remove the Shoulder marker and do not SC two st. together at the shoulder during the next round.

neckline

SC around the neckline a third time SC two st. together when you reach the markers, skipping that middle stitch at the center.  Remember you won’t SC two st. together at the shoulder during the third round. Add a Crab Stitch or Reverse SC around the entire neckline. End off. Note: you are welcome to continue closing in that neckline by SC 2 st. together where you think it is best.
