Cons of a Crochet Diaper Cover

• Not Waterproof: Does not provide a waterproof barrier unless lined with a waterproof material. Wool isn’t ideal to crochet the cover with, but it’s wicking power is very strong.
• Requires Maintenance: Needs regular washing and may require blocking to maintain its shape.
• Potential Leakage: May not provide as tight a seal as commercial diaper covers, increasing the risk of leaks.
• Durability Concerns: May wear out faster with frequent washing compared to industrially made diaper covers.

Yarn: Any 4-ply yarn,  I used, Red Heart with Love “Aran; and Lettuce”. 

Pattern Notes:  beg. CH 1, does not count  on the diaper cover

Row 5:  CH 1, turn, SC in each st across (24 SC)

Row 25:  CH 1, sc around the edge, dropping MED. Green at last SC or round 25, and pull up DARK Green

Button Application

Sew a button or ribbon at the center of the front flap Pic 1 (Test your button to make sure it will go between the Stitches) When sewing the button to cover, place match under the button, so that the stitching is raised up Pic 2, then wrap the thread around all of the threads under the button, creating a “thread shank”. Pic 3 Watch this video to see how to sew a “Thread Shank”. 
Pin lace into place. If using less than 2” wide lace, extend the lace from one corner to the opposite corner Pic 1. If using wide lace, you will need to leave one side free of lace Pic 2, to make room for the button.  Pull the lace down over the button, once you have buttoned both sides in place. Pic 3  

Fabric Patch Tutorial                  

Pic 1 After you have chosen your fabric, cutting as close to the grain as possible, cut in 1 ¾” squares.  Pic 2 Remove the threads from the fabric squares. Approx. ¼”  

  Pin your fabric squares together, in the position you would like them to be on your diaper cover. Using your pinned patches as a guide, cut out a piece of felt, that coordinates with your fabric, as a corner may peek through after some wear. Scissors are in the lower corner. 

Pic 1 Using the felt patch as a pattern, cut a piece of Heat n Bond, Wonder Under, Stitch Witchery, or any kind of iron on adhesive. Pic 2 Then trim 1/8” off the adhesive patch.
 
Pic1 Take Iron adhesive patch & fabric to ironing board. With hot, NO STEAM iron, iron the patch to the BACK of the fabric squares, removing the pin at the last minute. Pic 2 Let cool and peel the paper away. Pic 3 This will leave the adhesive on the fabric.
Pic1 Place fabric glue side down on felt patch and TURN OVER. Take to ironing board, with fabric FACE UP, or fabric RIGHT SIDE UP, iron with hot iron, with an up and down motion, not leaving the iron on for a great length of time, as the felt may shrink. Definitely do not use steam!! Pic 2 After the patch has cooled a little bit, but is still warm, mold to the crown of hat or diaper cover, hand pressing and molding in the place desired. Let cool, and then you can pin and sew it in place! 

 You may have a favorite embroidery or quilting stitch that you can use, but I am not so talented, so I use the Prick stitch. You insert the needle from underneath, then take the tiniest stitch back. Then repeat evenly spacing your Prick stitches, catching the edges of the felt.
