Crochet Stocking Cap: Free Pattern

This crochet stocking cap is so sweet. It uses a sport weight yarn. Choose a color combination that suits the baby. These little hats are great for photo ops with your newborn baby. You can use that long stocking tail to cover the back and the bum if having a native photo shoot with your newborn. The free crochet pattern is below or you can purchase the ad free pdf at RAVELRY or ETSY.

Crochet stocking Cap Free crochet pattern. Baby is in a tub with a blanket, while the long tail of the stocking cap is hanging over the side.

The crochet pattern for this stocking cap makes the most adorable Stocking Cap!

I made this one with the softest variegated baby DK weight yarn. It has the sweetest triple rose on the side. The long tail, ends with a sweet pom pom.

This stocking cap is not intended for baby to sleep or travel in, as it poses a choking hazard. This hat is for Photo Opportunities only.
A close up of sweet baby in her stocking cap.

I used Bernat’s Baby yarn in solid white, and Jacquard for the contrasting stripe.

Of course you can use whatever colors you would like. More advanced Crochet Artists could even use three or four different colors.

I have worked very hard to make this pattern easy to read, and best of all it has my “Gauge as you Go” system. This makes it so much easier to get the size that you are wanting to achieve.
Side view of baby wearing the striped stocking cap, showing the triple rose on the side.

The fluffy flower on the side of the hat is the icing on the cake. Here is a copy of the crochet pattern for you to enjoy.

Free Crochet Pattern For A Long Tailed Stocking Cap

STOP!!!! PLEASE READ!!!!! Gauge As You Go: Measurements for  certain stages throughout the pattern will be in { } This particular  pattern will have measurements in width, length and  circumference. This system of measurements, will give you an idea if  you are on track to achieve the size & length you WANT. The first  measurements you will see is length, and then width. Not everyone  crochets with the same tension. Working with testers, I have come to  realize that 50% of crocheters will crochet tighter than I do. If you  already know that you crochet tightly, or you are seeing that your  measurements are too small after a couple sequences of measuring, then  go up a hook size or two. Some crochet artists can achieve gauge  horizontally, but not in height. If you are finding that the length  segments are too short, you can always add an extra yarn over before  pulling through the last sequence of loops that completes the stitch, this  will give your stitches more height, or just add more rows until you get  the length the pattern calls for. You will not see measurements for  Circumference until it is round enough to measure easily, so before you  see Circumference, the width measurement is essential. There are so  many ways to achieve the size you want, with “GAUGE AS YOU GO”

2 Versions of pattern. Print condensed version or long  version. No need to print both

Long version of pattern is easy, with instruction on color   Changes.
