3D Ladybug Crochet Granny Square – Free Pattern

If you love crochet patterns that combine creativity with clever construction, this 3D Ladybug Crochet Granny Square is a must-try. Measuring approximately 9 inches, this afghan block features ladybugs that are crocheted directly into the square using post stitches—there’s no need to applique anything afterward. It’s a fun, eye-catching design that adds depth and character to your work.

This pattern is perfect for an intermediate crocheter and uses basic worsted weight yarn (category 4), along with just a few buttons and ribbon to make those ladybugs come to life. The free crochet pattern is down below, but if you would like an ad free pdf that includes all photo tutorials, please purchase at ETSY or RAVELRY.

  • Uses worsted weight yarn (category 4)

  • Great for afghans, pillows, baby blankets, or wall hangings

  • A few small black buttons and a bit of ribbon bring the ladybugs to life

Get Creative With Color

While traditional red and black ladybugs look classic, you can have fun experimenting with your own combinations. Some testers tried soft pastels, bright jewel tones, or even tone-on-tone designs. Whether you’re crafting a cozy throw for a nursery or a vibrant blanket for a child’s room, you’ll find endless possibilities to make this square your own.

Skill Level: Intermediate

You’ll want to be comfortable working up and down the post with your stitches. If you’re new to post stitch techniques, this square is a fun way to learn! With a little practice, you’ll be making these cute ladybugs in no time.
