The storage bin crochet pattern is the latest design in the Proverbs Series of crochet patterns.
Who knew creating square crochet storage options, would be this easy? The square crochet basket will fit over a purchased storage cube. You can easily use a hot glue gun to adhere this to the storage cube. You can also used a curved sewing needle and stitch the cover into place.
A friend gave me a comfort gift with a coffee mug that had my life verse on it, and some specialty tea.
I love tea, and the packaging was so pretty, that it inspired me to design a basket to hold the tea bags. Then I had to design a hot chocolate basket .That hot chocolate basket is sitting on my counter, and it holds more than hot chocolate. It also holds Apple Cider and Oatmeal packets. I also found that microwave popcorn packs fit in the nicely, as well.
I love having these little items to help organize my coffee bar. These items were shuffled to the pantry this past summer, as they weren’t much in use. With the cold weather, they have made an appearance back on the counter. Such a lovely collection to have next to my Keurig machine.

A Crochet Cover For A Box of any size, is easy to do by following all of the notes found in the crochet pattern.
We all have storage cubes in our homes. They are so convenient to store ready to grab items, out of sight. I find great pleasure is covering these cubes with crochet and fabric.
Storage Bin Crochet Pattern
Yarn:
Any worsted weight (4) yarn, I used Red Heart Super Saver MC = 300-325 yds:
Red Heart Super Saver CC = 30-40 yds
Additional Supplies
1-Collapsible Cube, You can use a cube of any size. This crochet pattern will show you how to make the cover fit any cube. You can also use this method on a box.
2-Glue gun and glue stick
3-Ruler, I like a fabric measuring tape

H-8/5.00 mm
G-6/4.00 mm
Gauge:
Not applicable: This is a freestyle project. Follow the steps & pay close attention to the measurements given. It is important to change to a G-6/4.00 mm hook at Round 2

MC = Main Color = I used Gray and White
CC = Contrasting Color = Soft White & Pink
ch = Chain
sc = Single Crochet
hdc = Half Double Crochet
bp hdc = Back Post Half Double Crochet

slp st = Slip Stitch
skp = Skip

st./st’s = stitch or stitches

* * = Complete sequence between the stars, the number of times stated;
x = Times; example Repeat 2 x or 2 times; 3 x or 3 times and so on;
in = example “in nxt st” means you will be inserting the hook under the top two loops of the next stitch to complete stitch or sequence of stitches stated

Special Stitches:
beg. heart st = Beg. Heart Stitch: turning ch 2, counts as a stitch; *yo, insert hook, pull up a loop* 2x; yo, pull thru all 3 loops on hook; ch 2; *yo, insert hook, pull up a loop* 3x; yo pull thru all 4 loops on hook
heart stitch = Heart Stitch: in the stitch indicated; *yo, insert hook, pull up a loop* 3x; yo, pull thru all 4 loops on hook; ch 2; *yo, insert hook, pull up a loop* 3x; yo pull thru all 4 loops on hook
V st = V Stitch = dc, in stitch indicated, ch1, dc in that same st; dc, ch1, dc in stitch indicated.
Special Notes:
- The Heart Stitch Blooms to the wrong side of your work. The Turn that is executed after pulling up the CC is much needed.
- This pattern will be written so that you can cover any sized box or storage cube cover.
- It is important to change to a G-6/4.00 mm crochet hook at Round 2.
Sweet Heart Cube Or Box Cover Crochet PatternBeginning: Using MC, ch 31Please follow the video, to understand that your cube or box may be a different size. The cube I am writing this pattern for, is 10.5″ x 11″. I will be making the base chain, long enough to fit inside the 11″ when stretched.
Row 1:hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; ch 1 & Turn (30 st’s)
Row 2 – 24:hdc in 1st st and in each ch across; ch 1 & Turn; (30 st’s)
The amount of rows that you execute may be different than mine. The base that you are making must fit inside the lip of the storage cube or box. It shouldn’t extend over the edge.
The rest of the crochet pattern is in the round. Round numbers will begin at the number 1.
Round 1: Do not turn here or throughout the rest of the pattern, until you arrive at the Heart Stitch Round.
NOTE: You will need a multiple of 3 stitches. This stitch count can be adjusted in Round 3 if needed.
Turn slightly, and begin to sc around the edge of the base. starting with 3 sc st’s at the corner, placing it on the side of the sc that was just made. Make sure the stitches are evenly placed and there are no ripples. Watch the Tea Basket video for a close up on how to sc around the base.
Place a sc in the side of each row & Place 3 sc st’s at each corner, placing them at the edge or the side of the stitch.
Join w/slp st to first st made & ch1.
Stitch count is not important at this point, as we will take care of the stitch count by doing a little bit of math in Round 3. Don’t worry, it’s easy.
Round 2: -Please change to a G-6/4.00 mm crochet hook.bp hdc in 1st st, and in each st around, join w/slp st to beg. st, ch1 (132 st’s – My stitch count was 132)
Now it is time to do some Math. Count your stitches.
- If the stitch count is divisible by 3 +1 left over, you will not need to make any changes at Round 3.
- If you are short by 2 stitches, slip st into the first hdc. Then begin the round. Begin the pattern around the base, and randomly skip 1 stitch, instead of 2 st’s. Continue in the pattern around. When you are at the end of round 3, by pass the slp st. Treat it as a non stitch.
- If you are short by 1 stitch, slip st into the first hdc. Then begin round 3. When you are at the end of round 3, by pass the slp st. Treat it as a non stitch.
Round 3:
sc in joining st, *ch3, skp 2st’s, sc in nxt st* repeat between * * around, deferring to instruction above, that pertains to your stitch count; join w/slp st to beg. sc; ch4
Round 4:
beg. ch4 counts as dc ch1, dc in joining st; (first V made) * V stitch in nxt sc:* repeat between * * around; join w/slp st to 3rd ch of beg. ch4; ch1
Round 5:
slp st into ch1 sp, ch1, sc in same ch1 sp, *ch3, sc in ch1 sp of prev V*; repeat between * * around; join w/slp st to beg. sc; ch 4
Round 6:
beg. ch4 counts as dc ch1, dc in joining st; (first V made) * V stitch in nxt sc:* repeat between * * around; join w/slp st to 3rd ch of beg. ch4; ch1
Round 7-16:
Repeat Rounds 5 & 6
Take a minute to fit the cover around the cube or box. Gently pull the cover up, stretching it.
There needs to be 4″ of the cube left to cover. If there is 4 “ left, then drop down and start working round 17. If the work is short, execute 2 more rounds. If it is too tall, remove 2 rounds at a time.NOTE: If you forgot to switch to a G-6/4.00 mm crochet hook, you can do so now.
Round 17: The following round needs to be a multiple of 2. Make adjustments as you are executing this round.
sc in joining st, and in each ch1 sp, and dc around; join w/slp st to beg. sc; ch 4
Round 18:ch4 counts as (dc, ch1), *skp st, dc in nxt st, ch1;* repeat between * * around; join w/slp st 3rd ch of beg. ch4; ch 1
Round 19: Count the stitches. Round 22 needs a multiple of 6 stitches. Make adjustments in the following 3 rounds, by increasing stitches as needed. Randomly placing them around.
sc in joining st and in each ch1 sp and dc, around; join w/slp st to beg. sc; ch2
Round 20:
dc in joining st & in each st around; join w/slp st to beg. dc; ch 1
Round 21: Remember to make the stitch count a multiple of 6
sc in joining st and in each st around; drop MC and pull up CC at the join w/slp st to beg. sc; ch 2 and TURN
Round 22:
execute a beg. heart st; *ch2, skp 5 st’s, heart st;* repeat between * * around; ch2, skp last 5 st’s, drop and end off CC, bring the CC tails to the inside of the basket, pull up MC at the join, but first make sure the strand of MC is at the front of the basket; join w/slp st to beg. ch1 & TURN
Round 23:
*(drop into the row below the heart st, execute 1 hdc, in 2, 3 & 4, of the 5 sc st’s that were skipped) ch2, sc in ch2 sp of heart st; ch 2* repeat around between the * *; join w/slp st to beg. st; ch1
Round 24:
*sc in nxt 3 hdc st’s; sc in ch2 sp; sc in the sc at the top of nxt heart, sc in ch2 sp;* repeat between * * around; join w/slp st to beg. sc. ch2
Round 25:
dc in joining st, and in each st around; join w/slp st to beg. dc.
End off. weave in all ends.
