Simple Crochet Chemo Cap | Free Pattern

Let me show you how to crochet this simple chemo cap. It is made using soft Lion Brand Coboo yarn that will not irritate the sensitive skin of someone going through chemo. This chemo cap features a stitch that adds a little bit of visual texture, while keeping a soft to the skin feel.

The free crochet pattern in Children through Adult Extra Large sizes, can be found below. Want a printable copy? Purchase the ad free pdf at RAVELRY or ETSY

I sometimes use affiliate links in my posts. This won’t cost you anything, but will help offset the cost of yarn and other supplies needed, so that I can continue bringing you crochet patterns and craft ideas. Thank you so much for your support.

A crocheted chemo cap in pale pink. It is crocheted using Lion Brand Coboo yarn. There is a faux leather brown tag that says "Made With Love". The hat is laying on a brown piece of card stock that is laying on a decorative charger. The charger is setting on a floral background.

The ridges on this the hat are easy to create by using a High Back Post Half Double Crochet.

No need to use an advanced technique, where you drop down into that third loop of a previous half double crochet. It’s a simple placement of a Back Post Half Double Crochet. It is a very simple technique, but it isn’t an ordinary Back Post Stitch. It is a “High” Back Post Stitch. Below is a video that will show you how to execute color changes at the ridges and how easy it is to create that ridge, using a High Back Post Half Double Crochet stitch.

In 2021 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Great peace flooded my soul when I was diagnosed, and I have not had a moment of fear. God has been close by my side throughout the whole process. Chemo therapy wasn’t needed and I am Cancer free.

I am thankful I didn’t lose my hair.

While I was waiting to find out if treatments were needed, I decided that I would design beautiful and simple chemo caps and hats. Lion Brand Coboo yarn is my go to yarn, when designing chemo caps.

Several Chemo Caps have been designed since my Breast Cancer diagnosis in 2021.

It was the middle of winter when the fluffy and warm Pipsqueak Chemo Hat was designed. Aptly named the Pipsqueak Chemo Cap, as it uses Pipsqueak Yarn. The turned up brim is fashionable and is the perfect place to add a brooch or a bit of embellishment.

When Spring arrived mesh chemo caps were designed.

First was a mesh beanie, then a banded mesh bucket hat. That bucket chemo cap is perfect to embellish into a 1920’s inspired cloche.

Pink chemo cap is laying on a brown square with a floral background, behind the square. The chemo cap is crocheted using a soft yarn and a simple to execute ridge is the highlight of this chemo cap. A faux leather tag has been sewn on to the brim. The tag was purchased at Hobby Lobby.

Yarn used:

Designer Notes

1. Please check the gauge before making the hat. This hat does have a bit of stretch to it. Keep in mind that it is designed for someone who has lost their hair.

2. Color changes are best made by dropping the Main Color and pulling up the Contrasting Color at the join the round before the Ridge Rounds. Then drop the CC and pull up the MC at the join of the last ridge round.

3. I may use affiliate links, at no cost to you, if you purchase a product using my link. If you purchase it will help fund me, so that I may continue to design new crochet patterns for you to enjoy.

4. Beginning chains do not count as a stitch.
