How To Crochet A Mesh Chemo Bucket Cap | Free Crochet Pattern

This mesh chemo bucket hat is beautiful and fast to crochet. The mesh design makes this chemo hat perfect for warmer weather, but the band at the crown gives a bit more coverage, just in case your hair loss is something you want to avoid other’s being able to see. The free crochet pattern is found below, but if you would like an ad free pdf, they can be found on ETSY or RAVELRY.

I sometimes use affiliate links in my posts. This won’t cost you anything, but will help offset the cost of yarn and other supplies needed, so that I can continue bringing you crochet patterns and craft ideas. Thank you so much for your support.

It's easy to crochet a mesh chemo bucket hat. Embellish it for a 1920's Cloche effect.

This Bucket Hat is perfect for special occasions.

It is especially sweet, when the brim is embellished with fanciness to resemble a 1920’s cloche. Lion Brand Coboo Yarn was used for this design. I have been advised that Caron Simply Soft is another good option for chemo headgear.

I have fought a battle with Breast Cancer.

When I was fighting the cancer, I decided that I wanted to create beautiful Chemo Headgear. While at my local cancer center I asked them what their needs were. They mentioned a cotton chemo cap would be good for the warmer months. They also mentioned they always need chemo hats for men.

Below is a photo collage of most of the chemo caps I have designed, since being diagnosed with Breast cancer..

  • The Double Down chemo cap is so fast to make and is intended for those that are in chilly climates.
  • The Tiny Pearls chemo cap is made using a 100% bamboo yarn.
  • The Peekaboo Ridge chemo cap is a favorite of many and there is video support available.
  • The Mesh chemo cap gets a lot of attention, as sometimes a chemo patient wants to have something to wear in the summer months.
  • The last chemo cap in the collage is the Simple Ridge hat. All of these patterns are free on my website.
a photo collage of 6 chemo Caps that have been designed by me using either Lion Brand Truboo or Coboo yarn. Free pattern links are below the photo.
Other Chemo Caps that I have designed that aren’t pictured are,
  • A very easy to crochet Soft Shells Chemo Cap with 3 different brim options.
  • A Cotton Chemo Cap that is made using dishcloth cotton yarn. I highly recommend washing this hat to soften the yarn.
  • The Ladies Fancy chemo cap with a turned up brim has been downloaded and crocheted many times over. Check out the project page on Ravelry to see everyone’s makes.
  • Next is a Young Girls chemo cap made with a bulky Boucle yarn that has a rounded turned up brim.
  • The Single Cable chemo cap was designed for Sweet Potato 3’s Crochet Cancer Challenge. When I look at this photo I think, “I had Cancer then and I didn’t know it”.
  • I designed this chemo cap when I was waiting to see if I was going to need chemo therapy. I designed it for myself as it was January, and I knew I wanted something warm to wear to my doctor appointments.

Hey there, sign up for my newsletter!

It is bringing me great joy to design unique and lovely chemo caps.

God has been good to me, and my journey is easier than most. I am thankful for good health after my surgery, and praying that my energy will be restored soon. Thank you to all who have been praying for me. To God be the glory!

This crochet pattern gives instruction on how to crochet a child sized chemo cap.

Just eliminate Round 5, and add only 3 rounds of sc after the last increase on the brim. You will need to adjust your stitch count and remember the Round Count will be off by one.

Where do you send your hats? I would like to help make for cancer patients. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and would love to help others.

I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I hope you are well? I take my caps to my local Cancer Center. The chemo/infusion department takes them in for me.

Thank you for sharing these and your story. I am making at least one for a dear friend of mine. While it’s sad that they are needed, I am humbled and grateful for something I can do for my friend.
