I had great fun creating this crochet puppy dog hat for my grandson. He’s a little guy and was born premature. He has grown and is now wearing 0-3 month sized hats. I added mini earflaps to this design to help keep his ears and neck warm.
The ad free pdf includes the micro preemie, preemie, newborn and this 0-3 month puppy dog hat. I’m loving the heart eye patch. Purchase the ad free pdf at RAVELRY or ETSY.
Crocheting hats for little ones in the NICU has been a part of my routine, since my grandson was born.
The joy that something so little brings to mom’s and dad’s, when their little ones is struggling with health problems, is burden lifting. Watching your baby struggle is so hard. Adding a bit of whimsy lifts their spirits.
Doctors and Nurses become joyful when they can bring a sweet hat over to the baby and it’s parents.
Every NICU unit has different requirements.
Contact your local NICU to see if they will allow buttons and bows on the hats. Do they require you to wash the hats before donating. What kind of yarn do they prefer?
It is so easy to embellish this cute little hat. Remember you can purchase the ad free pdf at RAVELRY or ETSY.
It includes the micro preemie thru newborn sizes as well. You don’t have to make that heart eye patch, you can crochet an oval and it will look just as cute.

We have a ladies group that meets once a week. We make preemie beanies, chemo caps, and lap blankets. These are some great patterns. Thanks for allowing us to use them for charity. P.S.my first born was a preemie 40 years ago and there were no clothes a or hats for preemies back then. These are great!

Thank you so much for your encouraging note. I am so happy the patterns are helping you help those tiny babies.
My oldest is 40, and everything was different back then, but it seems like yesterday doesn’t it? Is your child doing well?
