Momma’s Little Firecracker Sailor Overalls – Free Crochet Pattern

You will love Momma’s Little Firecracker Sailor Overalls. I hope you will enjoy this free crochet pattern for the Overalls in preemie, newborn and 3 month sizes. You will find the pattern below. I designed this when I was expecting my first grandson in 2016. I used Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Cotton” yarn.

Momma's Little Firecracker Bibs made out of Cotton with Gold buttons. There is a little Sailor hat with coordinating buttons at the right corner.

The legs of the overalls have a bell bottom just like a Sailor!

The red yarn that is on the bottom is a nice touch. You can expand and use many different color combinations to create your little Sailor overalls. Purchase the ad free pdf that includes the little Sailor hat pattern at RAVELRY or ETSY

Momma's Little Firecracker Bibs that has navy and whitee anchor buttons at the top of the bib and around the brim of the sailor hat.

The straps of the Little Sailor Overalls cross in the back.

They are fastened to a button that is placed just inside of the waistband. Which makes the straps adjustable. Use a button that will fit through the weave of the crocheted strap. A half inch button will usually do the trick.

The back of Momma's Little Firecracker Bibs. The straps of the bibs cross in the back and a button is placed inside the waistband at the back.

The Baby Sailor Overalls is part of a crochet pattern collection.

This Momma’s Little Firecracker collection includes The Sailor Overalls, a Little Girls Jumper, Sailor Shorts, Sailor Shortalls, and a Sailor Hat.

The Sailor Hat is a free crochet pattern -> HERE <- on my website.

I really enjoy designing around a theme. Nautical themes have always been a favorite of mine for little ones. Purchase the entire collection at a discount at RAVELRY or ETSY.

The entire collection of crochet patterns that is included in Momma's Lil Firecracker. From left to right is a pair of sailor Shortalls, sailor shorts and a hat, a girls jumper and sailor hat, and the sailor bell bottomed bibs.

  • Edging:
    1. Holding the jumper so that you are looking inside the bibs, and wrong side is facing you, attach yarn in bottom right corner of bib.
  • SC up the side with one stitch in the side of each row as long as the bib does not ripple.
  • If it starts to ripple, skip a row.
  • 3 SC at the corner.
  • SC across the top with a SC in each st.
  • 3 SC at the corner, and proceed to SC down the opposite side;
  • 2. Drop MC and pull up CC on last pull through of the last stitch made.
  • CH 1 and Turn.
  • Repeat Step 1. of edging around the bib.
  • When finished, drop CC and pull up MC at the last st of the bib.
  • Do not end off.
  • 3. You are now at the waistband and will proceed to SC around the entire edge of the waistband.
  • (Use the technique that was used when attaching the bib, where you dipped between the HDC stitches.)
  • 4. Continue to SC around the bib.
  • This will make the last bit of edging using the MC.
  • End Off when you reach the first stitch of your last color change.
    (4” x 4.5 “ wide)

Straps: Make 2
Row 1: CH 5,  HDC in 2nd CH from hook and in each CH across; CH 2, Turn (4 HDC)
Row 2: HDC in 1st st, and in each st across;  CH 2, Turn (4 HDC)
Row 4 -34, 36, 40: Repeat Row 3 End off at the end of Row 34, 36, 40

  • Sew the bib straps to the upper corner of the bib.
  • Cross them to the back.
  • Sew a button to the inside of the waistband on each side.
  • I use scotch tape to hold the buttons in place, while I am sewing on the buttons.
  • The tape is easily removed when sewing is finished.
  • Fasten the straps in place by putting the button through the weave on the straps.
  • This makes it’s very adjustable.

Optional Waist Tie

  • CH 82, 85, 90 feed through the ribbing.
  • Be careful to slip through the stitching and not through the yarn. You can also use ribbon in this area.
  • The photo below is showing the Sailor Shorts that has a tie at the waist.
Momma's Little Firecracker Shorts that has a contrasting red tie in the ribbing at the waist.

I have been designing crochet patterns since 2007-2008, when I was selling custom pageant wear on Ebay Boutique.

It was before Etsy was even a thought. I rebranded from Krissys’ Wonders to Krissy’s Over The Mountain Crochet in 2018-2019, hence the old watermarks.

I hope you enjoyed your visit on my side of the mountain. If you enjoyed this free crochet pattern please leave me a note below.

Pin the photo below. Then you will always know where to find these Sailor Overalls with Bellbottoms.

Let me know if you crochet the Momma’s Lil’ Firecracker overalls.

I would love to hear from you! I would love it if you subscribed to my youtube channel. I have several tutorials there, and I am adding sewing tutorials soon!
