How to Crochet a Preemie Baby Sailor Hat: Free Pattern

Let me show you how to crochet a Baby Sailor Hat using this free pattern. You will love this Baby Sailor. It is so fast to crochet and the free pattern below also includes Preemie, Newborn and 3 month sizes. Preemie Baby Sailor Hat Crochet Pattern
Hook: G- 6/4.0 Preemie Sailor Hat
Beginning chains do not count as stitch

CH 3, join in ring or use magic circle
Round 1: CH 2, 10 HDC in ring; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC.  (10 HDC) 

Round 2: CH 2, 2 HDC in joining st and in each st around, join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (20 HDC) 

Round 3: CH 2, HDC in joining st, 2 HDC in nxt st; *HDC in nxt st, 2 HDC in nxt st* Repeat between *  * 9x; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (30 HDC)  

Round 4: CH 2, HDC in joining st, HDC in nxt st 4x, 2 HDC in nxt st; *HDC in nxt st 5x, 2 HDC in nxt st* Repeat between *  * 3x; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (35 HDC)
[diameter=3”] 

Round 5-9: CH 2, HDC in joining st and in each st around;  join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC  (35 HDC)  [10 ½” circumference: Rows 5-9=1 ¾” long] 

Round 10: CH 1 and TURN, SC in back loop of nxt  st, and in each st around; join w/SLP ST in 1st SC  (35 sc) [You are actually crocheting in the front loop, but since you turned your work, the front loop becomes the back loop]
                                                   
Round 11: CH1, SC in joining st; SC in nxt st 3x; 2 SC in nxt st; *SC in nxt st 4x, 2 SC in nxt st; * Repeat between *  * 5x; join w/SLP ST in 1st SC  (41 SC) [The brim will now be turning up toward the crown of the hat, throughout the rest of the pattern]

Round 12 – 13: CH 1, SC in joining st and in each st around; join w/SLP ST in 1st SC  (41 SC)  

Round 14: CH 1,  SC in joining st and in each st around; drop MC and  join w/SLP ST in 1st SC drawing up loop of CC  (41 SC)  

Round 15 & 16: CH 1,  SC in joining st and in each st around; drop CC at the end of round 16, and  join w/SLP ST in 1st SC drawing up loop of MC  at the end of round 16 (41 SC) 

Round 17 – 18: CH 1,  SC in joining st, and in each st around; join w/SLP ST in 1st SC; end off weave in ends (41 SC) [Turned up brim= 1 ¾’] 

Finishing measurements: 10 ½”  circumference; 3 ¼” from crown to bottom of hat;  5 ¼” wide including turned up brim

How To Crochet A Newborn Baby Sailor Hat Crochet Pattern
Hook: H- 8/5.0 sailor hat
Beginning chains do not count as stitch
CH 3, join in ring or use magic circle
Newborn Baby Sailor Hat with a navy bow that has white anchors on the brim of the hat.

Round 1: CH 2, 10 HDC in ring; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC.  (10 HDC) 

Round 2: CH 2, 2 HDC in joining st and in each st around, join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (20 HDC) 

Round 3: CH 2, HDC in joining st, 2 HDC in nxt st; *HDC in nxt st, 2 HDC in nxt st* Repeat between *  * 9x; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (30 HDC)

Hook: H- 8/5.0 sailor hat
Beginning chains do not count as a stitch. 

CH 3, join in ring, or use magic circle
3 month Baby Sailor Hat with a navy blue bow on the brim, that has been made out of grosgrain ribbon.

Round 1: CH 2, 10 HDC in ring; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC;  (10 HDC) 

Round 2: CH 2, 2 HDC in joining st and in each st around, join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (20 HDC) 

Round 3: CH 2, HDC in joining st, 2 HDC in nxt st; *HDC in nxt st, 2 HDC in nxt st* Repeat between *  * 8x; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (30 HDC) 

Round 4: CH 2, HDC in joining st, HDC in nxt st, 2 HDC in nxt st; *HDC in nxt st 2x, 2 HDC in nxt st* Repeat between *  * 9x; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC  (40 HDC) [diameter=3 ½” ] 

Round 5-13: CH 2, HDC in joining st and in each st around;  join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC  (40 HDC) [circumference 14” Row 5-13=3 ¼” long] 

Round 14: CH 1 and turn, SC in back loop of nxt  st, and in each st around; join w/SLP ST in 1st SC  (40 SC) [You are actually crocheting in the front loop, but since you turned your work, the front loop becomes the back loop.
Round 15: CH1, SC in joining st, SC in nxt st 3x, 2 SC in nxt st; *SC in nxt st 4x, 2 SC in nxt st; * Repeat between *  * 6x; join w/SLP ST in 1st SC   [The brim will now be turning up toward the crown of the hat, throughout the rest of the pattern]

Instead of adding Nautical buttons & bows, you may want to add a little Rubber Ducky Applique.

Round 21 -22: CH 1,  SC in joining st, SC in nxt st and in each st around; drop white and  join w/SLP ST in 1st SC drawing up loop of MC at the end of round 22  (47 SC) 

Round 23 – 24: CH 1,  SC in joining st, SC in nxt st and in each st around; join w/SLP ST in 1st SC; end off weave in ends (47 SC) [Turned up brim=2 ½”] 

Finishing measurements: 16 ½”-17”  circumference; 5” from crown to bottom of hat;  7 ½” wide including turned up brim
