Let me show you how to crochet a Nautical Diaper Cover. Diaper Covers have two purposes, cover that diaper and to coordinate with the rest of the babies Nautical outfit. The second purpose is to catch the overflow. Crochet this in wool or cotton and you have a sustainable diaper cover. There are two sizes for this diaper cover, newborn-3 months & 6-9 months.
I may use affiliate links that will not cost you anything, but I may receive a small commission that will help my small business along. Thank you so much for your support.
When I crocheted this diaper cover I used Caron Simply Soft.
The colors are what I needed at the time to crochet this soaker. If you are wanting to recreate this in cotton yarn, Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Cotton” is a very good choice. There is a Sailor Hat and Bib and they are also free crochet patterns here on my website.
Crocheting a cute little rubber duck applique and adding it to your Nautical Diaper Cover is a fun option.
I really had a lot of fun designing Nautical clothing for babies, it was only natural to add a cute little rubber duck applique. This opens up so many color options. If you don’t like ads, purchase the ad free pdf at that includes the hat and diaper cover at RAVELRY & ETSY.
The anchor buttons on the Diaper Cover are vintage, and you can find many other cute anchor buttons on Etsy.
The anchor buttons were part of the inspiration to crochet this sweet Nautical set. I also have designed a second set called Momma’s Lil Firecracker collection. I used “I Love This Cotton Yarn” from Hobby Lobby. The collection includes the Little Sailor Hat. A pair of Bib Overalls and Shortalls. There is also a pair of Nautical Shorts and a little girls Bib Dress or Jumper.

- STOP!!!! PLEASE READ!!!!! Gauge As You Go: I have added measurements to the pattern, at certain intervals.
- As you crochet you can readily see if you need to add an increase row.
- You may want to add more rows.
- You may need to take a row or two away.Measurements for certain stages throughout the pattern will be in [ ]
- This system of measurements will give you an idea if you are on track to achieve the size that you WANT.
- Everyone does not crochet with the same tension.
- For example, if the beginning measurement is too small, you can go up a hook size or two, or you can add an increase row if you so desire.
- Some crochet artists can achieve gauge horizontally, but not in height.
- If you are finding that the next segment of measurements is too short, you can always add an extra yarn over before pulling through the last sequence of loops that completes the stitch. This will give your stitches more height.
- One other option is add an extra row if you would like.
There are so many ways to achieve the size you want, with “GAUGE AS YOU GO” - This system will also allow you to change yarns…all Worsted weight yarns have a slightly different gauge.
- This system will help you see if the yarn is going to make it a good fit.
Yarn: I used Caron Simply Soft. I also recommend any cotton blend yarn.
Pattern Notes: Beginning chains do not count as a stitch
