How To Crochet A Sailor Baby Bib | Free Pattern

Let me show you how to crochet a Sailor Baby Bib. Little ones are so sweet when they wear this little bib. Babies are so cute when they wear Nautical clothing. Especially during patriotic holidays. Dress your little ones in Nautical clothing when a Soldier is coming home, and their face will light up with pride. The free crochet pattern can be found below.

I may use affiliate links that will not cost you anything, but I may receive a small commission that will help my small business along. Thank you so much for your support.

Little Sailor Nautical Baby Bib, crocheted in Navy and white yarn. Three vintage Anchor buttons are on the front of the bib.

The yarn I used to crochet this Baby Sailor Bib is Caron Simply Soft.

When I designed this cute little Sailor Bib, I also created a Sailor Diaper Cover Soaker and an adorable Sailor Hat. The Sailor Hat and Diaper Cover are also free crochet patterns here on my website. If you don’t like ads, purchase the ad free pdf at that includes the hat and diaper cover at RAVELRY & ETSY.

A crocheted Sailor Hat, Bib and Diaper cover.

A cotton yarn would be a good choice when making this baby bib.

Crocheting Nautical Baby Clothing has always been a joy of mine. The Momma’s Lil Firecracker collection uses “I Love This Cotton Yarn” from Hobby Lobby. The collection includes the Little Sailor Hat. A pair of Bib Overalls and Shortalls. There is also a pair of Nautical Shorts and a little girls Bib Dress or Jumper.

The entire collection of crochet patterns that is included in Momma's Lil Firecracker. From left to right is a pair of sailor Shortalls, sailor shorts and a hat, a girls jumper and sailor hat, and the sailor bell bottomed bibs.

The Pattern below will show you how to crochet the baby Sailor Bib.

  • STOP!!!! PLEASE READ!!!!! Gauge As You Go: I have added measurements to the pattern, at certain intervals.
  • As you crochet you can readily see if you need to add an increase row.
  • You may want to add more rows.
  • You may need to take a row or two away.Measurements for certain stages throughout the pattern will be in [  ]
  • This system of measurements will give you an idea if you are on track to achieve the size that you WANT.
  • Everyone  does not crochet with the same tension.
  • For example, if the beginning measurement is too small, you can go up a hook size or two, or you can add an increase row if you so desire.
  • Some crochet artists can achieve gauge horizontally, but not in height.
  • If you are finding that the next segment of measurements is too short, you can always add an extra yarn over before pulling through the last sequence of loops that completes the stitch. This will give your stitches more height.
  • One other option is add an extra row if you would like.

There are so many ways to achieve the size you want, with “GAUGE AS YOU GO”
  • This system will also allow you to change yarns…all Worsted weight yarns have a slightly different gauge.
  • This system will help you see if the yarn is going to make it a good fit.

Yarn: I used Caron Simply Soft.  I also recommend any cotton blend yarn.

  • Applying the buttons can be frustrating, but very easy when you use scotch tape.
  • Position the buttons in place, and then take a piece of scotch tape, and in one fell swoop, put the tape over the buttons
  • If done quickly, the buttons will not shift.
  • Sew the buttons in place, going through the scotch tape.
  • When all buttons are in place, gently peel the scotch tape away, lifting it gently away from the fiber.

three photos showing the steps of taping the buttons in place so that they will easily stay in place while sewing them on to the bib, then the third photo is showing the tape being removed after the buttons have been sewn in place.

I hope you enjoyed using this cute Baby Sailor Bib Crochet Pattern.

It has been a good seller for me at the craft shows. If you pair it with a Diaper Cover and Hat folks will want to purchase the set as a gift. I had great success selling Nautical Diaper Cover Sets that have a little Rubber Ducky appliqued on all three pieces in the set.

Purchase the ad free pdf that includes the hat, diaper cover and helpful photos at RAVELRY & ETSY.Little Rubber Ducky Appique sewn onto the Nautical Baby Set that includes the sailor hat, bib and diaper cover.

I hope you enjoy this free crochet patterns that are inspired by Sailors and Soldiers.

It is so much fun to put nautical clothing on babies. Patriotic holidays happen three to 4 times a year, and soldiers are always coming home to their loved ones. That’s a great time to dress up the babies.
