Crochet Basket With Handles: Free Pattern

A beautiful crochet basket with handles is always needed for storage. The crochet pattern is  easy to read and it is very quick to make. It is 9.5″ tall, 30″ around and has a 9″ diameter. You will need 1 yard of fabric and a poster board to make the liner for this basket. A free crochet pattern is here on this blog, if you keep scrolling. Purchase the ad free pdf that includes photo tutorials at Ravelry & Etsy,

What a lovely storage basket with handles. It is so easy and fast to crochet. Of course you can add embellishments and add a lining.

Here is video tutoroal that shows you how to add the fabric covered cardboard insert to your crochet baskets. Follow the exact steps I used to line the gray basket. You will need 1 yd of fabric, 1 poster board, glue gun, ruler and pencil. There is a pattern for that cute little white basket here on this blog.

Crocheting baskets is one of my all time favorite things to make. My Etsy Shop is full of them! They are so quick! I have several basket patterns here on this blog.

Pictorial Instruction for High Back Post Half Double Crochet – h bp hdc

This is not the standard way of executing a BP HDC, but is how to execute for this basket…so I am calling it a High Back Post Half Double Crochet.

Beginning Chains do not count as stitch unless otherwise noted.

Round 1: Use “L” Hook (Hold two strands of yarn, ch 3 join in a ring

ch 1, 10 hdc in the ring, join w/slp st to beg. hdc  (10 hdc)

Round 2:

ch 1, 2 hdc in joining st and in each st around; join w/slp st to beg. hdc (20 hdc)

Round 3:

ch 1, hdc in joining st, 2 hdc in nxt st; *hdc in nxt st, 2 hdc in nxt st* repeat around; join w/slp st to beg. hdc (30 hdc)

Round 4:

ch 1, hdc in joining st, and in nxt st, 2 hdc in nxt st; *(hdc in nxt st) 2x, 2 hdc in nxt st* repeat around; join w/slp st to beg. hdc (40 hdc)

Round 5:

ch 1, hdc in joining st, and in nxt 2 st’s, 2 hdc in nxt st; *(hdc in nxt st) 3x, 2 hdc in nxt st* repeat around; join w/slp st to beg. hdc (50 hdc)

Round 6:

ch 1, hdc in joining st, and in nxt 3 st’s, 2 hdc in nxt st; *(hdc in nxt st) 4x, 2 hdc in nxt st* repeat around; join w/slp st to beg. hdc (60 hdc)

Round 7:

ch 1 h bp hdc in joining st and in each st around join w/slp st to beg. hdc (60 h bp hdc)

Use “K” hook

(Hold the basket so that the outside of the basket is facing you. The ridge that was created at Round 7, should be facing you.

Round 8 -16:

ch 1 hdc in each st around; join w/slp st to beg. hdc

Round 17 & 18:

ch 1, sc in joining st and in each st around; join w/slp st to beg sc

Next: Fold basket in half. You will have a front and back. Place a marker in the back and the front at the very center. Make sure that the join area and your working yarn tails is on the right side of the basket.

Place a marker 5 stitches to the left and 5 stitches to the right of the front and back center marker. You should have six markers at the top of your basket.

place markers at the top of the basket in the center front and back.
Where to place the markers on the basket to help you make the handles.

Round 19:

ch 1, sc in joining st and in each st around and into the st where the first marker is, chain 13, skp 10 st’s & sc in the st that holds the third marker on the front side; continue to sc around and into the st where the next marker is; ch 13, skp 10 st’s & sc in the st that holds the third marker on the back side, continue to sc around; join w/slp st to beg sc

Thank you! I know how you feel! My head is spinning a bit too…so many themes. Country farmhouse, Easter, little girls room…little boys room…so many ways to style this. I have written the pattern for another size. It will go live today and I am hoping to have a third, very large one ready for Saturday’s live video. Getting pretty excited over here on my side of the mountain.

Thank you. I was back and forth on whether to use black and white flannel. Now that it is complete I am happy with the red and black buffalo check.
