How To Crochet Ladies Boot Socks: Includes a Free Ankle Footie Pattern

Let me show you how to crochet ladies boot socks. These socks are not only easy to crochet but also embody the classic Lumberjack style. Made with worsted-weight yarn, the color possibilities are endless, allowing you to customize them to your taste. Free Crochet Pattern can be found below.

With this free crochet pattern comes instructions on how to make footie ankle socks.

Picture yourself on a ski trip—after a day on the slopes, relaxing by the fire with a hot cocoa in hand, feet up, proudly showing off your cozy feet.

I don’t have to tell you how cute they are. You will have envious followers asking you to crochet them a pair or two. Which won’t be hard for you to do, because they are fast to crochet.

There are so many different color and size options when crocheting these boot, and ankle footie socks

In the photo below you will see a mish mash of boot socks and ankle footie socks in different sizes and colors. This is a great way to use up scrap yarn. Crochet a contrasting heel and toe, or just a contrasting toe. You can make the bottom of the sock one color.

Here you see three sets of boot socks at the top of the photo and 3 ankle footie socks at the bottom of the photo.
I love the cream and brown tweed socks with contrasting cranberry colored yarn.

The cream and brown are crocheted in a child size as well as the green and gray ankle socks. The mustard and gray came in a close second. The year I took these socks to a craft show, they were gone by the end of the show.

If you would like to purchase the ebook that includes Children’s, Ladies & Men’s sizes, it is available as an ad free pdf at RAVELRY and ETSY.

Wendy of BuzyBee Designs crocheted the prettiest “Sock Monkey” inspired ankle socks, then she made all of her grandchildren socks for Christmas a few years back. Look here to see all of the beautiful colors she used.

Free Crochet Pattern For the Lumberjack Boot Ankle Footie Sock in Ladies size xs/s & medium.

I used Red Heart Super Saver (Sock 2: MC = Approx. 220 yds; CC 1, toes  heel and cuff = Approx. 50 yds; CC 2, stripe = 10 to 15 yds) (Sock 1: MC = Approx. 120 yds; CC 1, toes and heel &  cuff = Approx 100 yds; CC 2, stripe = 10 to 15 yds.) You may use any worsted weight yarn in your color  choice. Please check gauge and consider that some colors in Red Heart Super Saver and Caron Simply  Soft are different in size, as some can be larger or smaller and can throw off gauge. If I noticed this, I  would go up or down a hook size and then go back to the hook that I achieved gauge with, when I  changed color again.

These are “A FEW” of the colors that “WILL” easily achieve gauge when working with Red Heart  Super Saver:

Heather Gray, Aran, Turquoise, Softer green colors. This list is not exhaustive. My testers  found that they needed to go up in hook sizes when working with Caron Simply Soft in solid colors

These are “A FEW” of the colors that “WILL NOT” easily achieve gauge when working with Red  Heart Super Saver :

White, Burgundy, Pink, Red, Black, Forest Green. This list is not exhaustive, they  are examples.

Hook: F/5/3.75mm

Gauge: 4” x 4”= 11 rows HDC x 14 HDC stitches

Stitch Guide

MC = Main Color

CC 1 = Contrasting Color 1 ( heel, toe and cuff)

CC 2 = Contrasting Color 2 (Stripe on cuff)

join w/ = join with

SLP ST = Slip Stitch

CH = Chain

SC = Single Crochet

HDC = Half Double Crochet

HDC DEC = Half Double Crochet Decrease

DC = Double Crochet

FP DC = Front Post Double Crochet

BP DC = Back Post Double Crochet

nxt = Next

* * = Repeat between the stars the number of times stated; x = Times; example Repeat 2 x or 2 times; 3 x or 3  times and so on;

in = example “in nxt st” means you will be inserting the hook under the top two loops of the next stitch to complete  stitch or sequence of stitches stated.

Ladies Ex Small-Small (4/6 shoe) and Medium (7/9 shoe)

NOTES:

  1. Beginning chains do not count as a stitch until the execution of the ribbed cuff. The ribbing will consist of  3 FP DC and 2 BP DC, with the beginning CH 2 counting as stitch that will recede and become a mock BP DC. 2. Color Code: Ladies Ex Small-Small (4/6 shoe) and Medium (7/9 shoe)
  2. You may add length or shorten the slipper sock at rounds 11-16, 11-18 if desired.
  3. If making the tall cuff, you may add length to the cuff before executing the stripe if desired, although I  recommend going up one hook size when you start the process of making taller cuffs.
  4. You can also add two or more stripes to the tall cuff if desired, although I recommend going up one hook size  when you start the process of making taller cuffs.
  5. Please pay close attention to the stripe round, as you will be executing a HDC in place of the BP DC in certain  rounds of the cuff. This prevents “Bleed Through” of contrasting colors.

7.This design is intended to be a bit on the chunky side and was created to be used as house slippers, but can be used  as socks in loose fitting boots or rain boots.

Row 29, 33: SC in nxt st 4x; SC DEC: SLP ST in nxt st 2x; SC DEC; SC in nxt st 4x; fasten off leave a  long tail to sew heel closed (14 st)

 (8.5”- 9”) (9 ½”- 10”)

 Tall cuff instructions follow.

 If making the short/ankle cuff you will find the instructions starting on page 7 Round 30, 34: Right side facing you, attach MC one stitch away from center heel, CH 1, HDC (34x, 39x)  around opening; join w/ SLP ST to beg. HDC. (34 HDC or 39 HDC for larger calf)

Round 31-33, 35-37: HDC in joining st, and in each st around; join w/ SLP ST to beg. HDC.  (34, 39 HDC) If you have high arches or a wide foot, please add an extra round or two before you  continue. This includes all sizes. If you are uncertain about whether to add an extra round and you want to  be safe, my advice is go ahead and add one round, because it will not affect the slipper sock at all.

 Cuff or ribbing rounds follow

Round 32-34, 38-40: CH 2; CH 2 counts as stitch and will recede and become a mock BP DC; *(FP DC in  nxt st 3x; BP DC in nxt st 2x;)* 6x 7x; FP DC in nxt st 3x; BP DC in last st; Join w/SLP ST in 2nd CH of  beg. If you choose to change colors, please  follow EXTRA Round below, and then continue on in pattern. The EXTRA Round will prevent a  “Bleeding” of the CC.

EXTRA Round: CH 2; *(FP DC in nxt st 3x; HDC in nxt st 2x;)* 6x (7x for larger calf); FP DC in nxt st  3x; HDC in last st; Join w/SLP ST in 2nd CH of beg. CH 2, (35 st’s or 40 st’s for larger calf)

Round 35-44, 41-50 : CH 2; *(FP DC in nxt st 3x; BP DC in nxt st 2x;)* 6x 7x; FP DC in nxt st 3x; BP  DC in last st; Join w/SLP ST in 2nd CH of beg. CH 2, Drop CC 1 and pulling up CC 2 at last pull through  of round 44, 50; (35, 40 st’s) Note: Color Change will be necessary here to make the stripe on cuff. When you  are finished the cuff will be mid-calf or below. If you would like a taller sock you can add length here, by  adding more rounds before changing colors.

Note: HDC instead of BP DC will be executed through Round 49 & 51; 51 & 53 to prevent “Bleed Through” of CC  yarn.

Round 49, 51: CH 2; *(FP DC in nxt st 3x; HDC in nxt st 2x;)* 6x 7x; FP DC in nxt st 3x; HDC in last st;  Join w/SLP ST in 2nd CH of beg. CH 2; (35, 40 st’s)
