How To Crochet A St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock

Let me show you how to crochet a St. Patrick’s Day shamrock with worsted weight (4) yarn. You can use cotton or acrylic yarn, it doesn’t matter. This shamrock is 3″ tall x 2″ wide. You can purchase the ad free pdf on RAVELRY.

Crocheting this small shamrock is fairly easy.

Actually if you use larger yarn and a larger hook, it will make a larger shamrock. How fun is that? I also keep forgetting that you can make a garland or bunting with these little cuties.

Here is a video tutorial that will walk you through the steps on how to crochet a mini shamrock.

St. Patrick’s Day was always a fun time as a little girl.

Teachers would decorate the room with shamrocks and leprechauns. Such good memories. Back then, the tradition was if you forgot to wear green, you got pinched all day long. That wasn’t as much fun, but it was memorable.

I have several St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock themed crochet patterns.

Ranging from wearable items to home decor. I think my favorite wearable item is a Shamrock Tutu Dress. It is such a sweet little design.  You can purchase the crochet pattern bundle on RAVELRY.

Below is the Crochet Pattern that will show you How To Crochet A St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock.

Yarn used:

I used Red Heart Super Saver, and a dishcloth cotton yarn. (4) This falls into the scrap category.

Gauge:
2″w x 3″h

Crochet Hook:
H-8/5.00 mm hook

STITCH GUIDE:
slp st = Slip Stitch
ch = Chain
hdc = Half Double Crochet
trb = treble stitch

Step 1: ch2

Leaf 1: pull the yarn tail toward the hook hand, and crochet over that yarn tail. (in the second ch from the hook, slp st, ch4, trbl, hdc, trbl, ch4, slp st) 1st leaf of the shamrock has been made.
Leaf 2: (continue working in the second ch, slp st, ch4, trbl, hdc, trbl, ch4, slp st) 2nd leaf has been made.
Leaf 3: (continuing in the second ch from the hook, slp st, ch4, trbl, hdc, trbl, ch4, slp st) 3rd leaf of shamrock is made. Do not end off.
STEM: ch5, slp st in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch,
Last Step:  slp st  behind the shamrock, which will be the loop of the beg. Ch.

To finish, I like to turn the shamrock over and tie the yarn tails with a surgeons knot, then easily weave in the yarn ends.
