  3. Crochet Pattern For The Vintage Inspired Pillbox Hat For Baby

    Yarn: Holding two strands of any worsted weight yarn, will make this hat to perfection! I  have used it all except for Caron Simply Soft. I find that Red Heart’s With Love makes a slightly  bigger hat.  

    Between 100-150 yds 

    Hook: I 9/5.50mm = preemie to newborn/ 3mo – 9mo 

     L- 11/8mm = 12 to 18 mo  

    Gauge: 4×4 = 9 HDC x 5.5 rows 

    Supplies & Notions: 

    Purchased flower of choice, Ribbon, Buttons, Lace,  

    Vintage or Retro earrings or brooch of choice 

    Sewing Needle and Matching thread; Clip and Glue gun or glue of choice 

    Pattern Notes
    1.Beginning Chain does not count as a stitch  

    2.The first ST executed in each round will be in the joining ST

    3.This hat is designed to sit loosely on your head making a wonderful fashion statement! You may want  to add a bobby pin or two for security. 

    Special Stitch: PICOT = CH 3, join w/SLP ST in top of last TRBL made

    SLP ST = Slip Stitch  

    CH = Chain  

    SC = Single Crochet  

    TRBL = Treble Stitch

    * * = Repeat between the stars the number of times stated; x = Times; example Repeat 2 x or 2 times; 3  x or 3 times and so on;  

    in = example “in nxt st” means you will be inserting the hook under the top two loops of the next stitch  to complete stitch or sequence of stitches stated.

    Round 1: CH 1; 10 HDC in ring; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (10 HDC) 

    Round 2: CH 1; 2 HDC in nxt ST and in each ST around; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (20 HDC) Round 3: CH 1; *HDC in nxt ST, 2 HDC in nxt ST* repeat 9 x more; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (30 HDC) 3 ¾” Round 4: CH1; BP HDC in nxt ST, and in each st around; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (30 HDC) Round 5: CH 1; *HDC in nxt ST (9 x), 2 HDC in nxt ST* repeat 2 x more; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (33 HDC) Round 6 – 8: CH 1; HDC in nxt ST, and in each ST around; join w/SLP ST in 1st HDC (33 HDC) 2 ¾” rnd 4-8

    Round 12: (Note: if you do not want the peak on the brim, just repeat Round 9) CH 1; SC in nxt st (16x);  HDC in nxt ST; DC in nxt ST; 2 TRBL in nxt ST; PICOT; 2 TRBL in nxt ST; DC in nxt ST; HDC in nxt St; SC in  nxt ST (11X); join w/SLP ST in 1st SC (35 ST)  

    Round 13: (Note: This round is optional or you can add a specialty yarn here, such as a boucle, fun fur, or  some of the fluffy yarns, such as Tizzy, Pipsqueak or Buttercup. I highly recommend three rows of trim if  using boucle or fun fur to make that fluffy edging) *CH 1, SLP ST in nxt ST* Repeat around; join w/SLP ST  in 1st ST; end off and weave in ends
